For drilling holes in thin material, 20 ga to 1/4", piliot drills are a real timesaver. With just a center punch, you can drill any size up to 1/2" diameter in one shot - no stepping up drill sizes. The hole comes out round and requires a minimum amount of pressure to get it through.
In this photo the drill is 3/8" diameter; material is 1/8". Drill time- under a minute.
This DeWalt set has flats so the drills don't slip in the chuck. They are titanium coated HSS. I got them at Grayco, an electrical supply house (electricians use them for drilling holes in panels). They are also available from Enco or MSC.
They also work great for drilling out spot welds.
