I need to remove the trust shaft from my 8 3/4 rear end.
It's an 742 clutch type sure grip.
I'm told... " no need to take it appart, just hit it with a hammer & cold chisel and it should come out"!
Not really sure I want to hit anything on a rear end with a hammer & chisel! Has anyone done this before?

I believe you need to remove the pin that holds the shaft in the differential, then knock out the shaft, then knock out the thrust block. I think the shaft goes through the thrust block. Of course you know the carrier needs to be unbolted from the rear end housing first.

The thrust pin is two pieces, held together with a roll pin in the center. Reach through the axle gear spline hole with long nose vise grips and haul one out, the other one will come easy.
