I am pretty sure this pile of rust is a 1930 Model A Cowl. Any additional insight would be appreciated.

I'll second the '30/'31! A '30 was the first car I built. That cowl section would make a great Woody! I've been wanting to do one similar to the '32 Speed Wagon that was making the car shows back in the '90s. I think Dan Fink built it?

edit: Dan Fink and designed by Thom Taylor.

year of cowl

The cowl you have is an early '30. The reason I sat this is based on the dash cluster, it's the same as the '28-'29. The dash didn't change 'til about mid year of '30 if I remember right . The late '30 and '31 had a wider dash cluster. I did have what was left of an early '30 cowl with the same dash cluster that you have, I stipped what was useful , but the cowl itself was beyond salvaging. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the information! I have not done much with it since the day of the photo. It is on a rolling cart in the corner of the garage. There is serious rust along the bottom... but it just makes me smile when I go out to the workshop.

Here is one that is perfect ..laying in my back yard.

I don't really need to keep this at the top of the list but since it is already there....

By "rust along the bottom" -- I mean the bottom of the cowl. You can see here that both the left and right side are pretty rotted.

I have purchased patch panels but will need to build up some type of substructure before there is any place to attach them.

Enough for now.
