I haven't worked on this car for almost a year. I finally got situated enough to get back at it. I broke out the HF bead roller today and whipped out a firewall. It is only the second time I have used it. I don 't have it mounted in yet and it will take a bit of clamping/tacking to get it all straight. Also included are pictures of the frame transition to 3" square, the beginning of the rear 1/4 eliptics and a shot or two of the Astrovan power cowl steering box in place.

Here's the rest, also a shot of the part off a 28-29 gas tank that I took measurements from. It will give up the rod suppots. And also the donor metal, it is 38"x8' 18 guage from some shelving backs. I got it at the freight damage store for a buck a sheet.

That firewall looks nice WB3, the cowl steering too. Maybe you should take some more time off from hoarding up all the old tin and finish that car.:)

Oh, no, I'm not a hoarder, I'm a finder. I love the hunt but don't keep much for my own.
And it is POWER cowl steering. Yeah, I know, pretty wimpy but I don't have room to get in and out with a very big steering wheel and my elbows are shot so I wussed out.

Looks good! Where is a freight damage store? I need spme cheap sheet metal...grouchy
The one's around here are called ROBB'S and they have everything from dented cans to industrial airconditioners, even occasional car parts. Right now they have a bunch of unidentified brake pads and about 200 new wheel cylinders for 70s-80s chevy 1/2 tons, plus some wheels, filters ect. I also got 4 foot shop lights 3 for $10.
Also here is a picture I drew a few years ago when I first started on the tub, sans the fenders this is pretty close to what's happening. And I don't have the 500 caddy engine anymore.

Progress 2-11 pic

I worked on the grill shell today and started mocking up the hood. Also I whacked a couple spare tire rings to make front fenders. Yes 2, because I wanted the little loops on top. Also I noticed a pair of these fenders brought $167 and the whole spare tire cover brought $171 on another auction at the same time. I thought I might use the rest of the tire cover in my bedsides.

quick ?

what are the rims on the front from? what is the stud spacing ? 5 on ?
By the way great build, keep up the great work. Clipper.

Bent up a practice hood today. I need to add alittle here and there and I will also attempt to get the lower and center edges folded over in a pan beake on the real deal, and use a guide for the bead roller.
So any ideas on the thing? Proportions? lines?

looking good!

Your coming along very well!
I like the look!
Bead in hood would look real good all the way through and even about 3in. on to the grill if you can!If you can't get the grill in the bead roller maybe run a bead on a small piece and then cut to fit and weld in place?
My $.02
Tim

Looks good. But the bead just stops. It needs to go to the grill. Then it will look like it belongs there.Other than that.Car is coming along nicely.

Yeah, This was my first plan but I also think the bead needs run on out to the end. I probably won't go onto the grill with it though. thanks
