a vintage modified is a modern oval track chassis with a 1948 or older body.

this car has wilwood four wheel disc brakes, 3-link rear suspension with ford 9 inch, 198O camaro front clip with all trick parts, nasty SBC 35O and manual trans.

several of my friends seen the vintage race car l am putting together and wanted one, this one is being done for one of the friends but he wanted a car like they race today, not like mine built in the spirit of the 196O's and this one was raced all over the NW for the last 6 years.

this one should not take long, not a lot of reworking like we had to do on mine, basically lights, turns signals, horn, street legal tires and titled & licensed leaving the paint alone so that should about do it.

You know that you're going to end up with 10 to 12 of those running around and you're going to end up having to put on an exhibition race at the local track

progress today

parts on order: alternator bracket , wheels, 3.5O ring & pinion with a complete rebuild kit for the 9 inch, headlights with built in turn signals with brackets and a EZ wire harness.

l got the seat and a new one wire alternator today, tomorrow going to semi-truck chrome shop for some L E D tail lights they got some real nice ones already on a brushed aluminum plate or a diamond plate one.

my buddy who were building the car for likes the offset look, so it will stay the way it is, which is good, makes less work for me.

these cars are alot of work to do so any time l can not re-invent the wheel is fine by me:D

today

we got the door off to be able to get inside to work on the seat and put in the brake pedal switch. big ol'e plate to keep debris from getting thru the door panel into the driver.

there was about 2OO pounds of lead we had to remove, those circle track guys sure like there ballast.

went to the semi truck store and found sequential cool looking turn signal and brake light L E D 12' X 2' bar lights and L E D running/tail lights.

today

new big and tall K & N air filter.

we fixed and put the nose cone on, changed distributor from one with vacuum advanced locked at 4O degrees to a stock H E I so it starts right up no problem and a 6OO holley so the two changes will give it a little more street drivability.

you can see in the pics the one distributor has no vacuum can as it has been cut-off.

l really wanted to do a little more work on the nose cone and bars but the owner like the "raced" look.

more

we cut out the old seat mount to get ready to install the new seat, that way it sit lower because the old one was 0K, but the aluminum racing seats just are not comfortable for us older folk.

l had a really nice door bar off another project and the bar on this was to bent and it was easier to replace than screw with the bent up one.

wiring harness arrived today, so 0H YEAH, more wiring in my life starting tomorrow.

passenger

took off the door panel to get to the exhaust so when the muffler gets here it's easier to put in, help with some wiring.

[;)[;)[;) we did the other door bar last night to make a matching pair. the new door bars make a lot of difference in the looks of the car.

Aaarrrgggggggggg rain!!!!!!

more parts arrived today, we sorta put the alternator and bracket on mocked up and then, welcome to western Washington in July, yep it started pouring rain on us and ended the day hence the crooked water pump pulley.

IT MUST BE SUMMER IN WESTERN WASHINGTON 'CAUSE THE RAIN IS WARM:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

being summer ya think it would be 0K to work outside a little bit. last week 1OO degrees & this week 7O degrees and rain, 0H YA, it is fun to live here.

l need longer bolts for the fan & spacer that is going on, mounting without the 2 inch spacer causes the fan to have contact with other non-moving parts.

putting on nice mechanical flex fan to help keep it cool along with the electric one already on it.

l got the alternator and fan with all the belts on, the the radiator hose and anti-freeze done, moving right along, wheels showed up today so the street tires are going on soon. owner decided against using the beadlocks and chose these instead. they look good to, as along as he is happy---l am happy.
