the copper looks great. You might want to find a place for a temperature gauge. Not sure where you could put it though and have it look right.
1/2 inch to the left of the speedometer would look right to me. It would also make it look like it is important.

Good point guys - but I guess I should have also included - I just threw these gauges into the holes for now - not sure which one will go where yet. I'd collected these 70's era Auto Meter gauges from a donor car, and have some extras. I don't think I'll use the vacuum gauge, and the temp gauge has the thermocouple on it, so it was an easier mock up with the vacuum gauge.

I'd turned the copper myself with skinny piece of plywood chucked in my drill press. It took me longer to lay out the grid on a piece of cardboard than it did to turn the copper. That and the copper was a piece of leftover from a copper range hood I'd built for the kitchen. (I knew I'd kept those pieces for a reason :) ) My next question is whether or not to patina the copper. Believe it or not, my wife and I used butter to patina the kitchen hood, and it turned it a really nice antique brown colour.

Thanks for the feedback!

Butter. Right? Not margarine.

Butter - no kidding. I'd experimented with every concoction I could think of, trying to make the range hood look old. My wife didn't want it turning green....a month's worth of experimenting (lemon juice, ammonia, salt, liver of sulfur, etc) and in the end it was butter.

Progress

Well, in spite of the hot weather, I've been able to find some time to keep things moving. I built some frame work to support a box covering the fuel cell and battery, and fitted some plywood to the frame. I need to get my hands on some black carpet to cover the plywood now.

I also received my front wheels, headers and wiring harness, so the next few weeks will be exciting. I need to modify the headers a bit, as I'm not really happy with their location under the body. The front wheel clearance (drivers' side obviously) is a bit tight for my liking, so my modifications will clear up both issues with one rework.

Thanks

Thanks Earthman (me too!)

Quick little mock up to show some friends the direction I'm going....funny how some people "get it", and some people just don't have a clue.....just as well, it wouldn't be so much fun if it was mainstream.

Clear....

So, before I got too carried away with the final build, I had a second thought and figured I should try to "lock down" that beautiful 89 year old patina. The roof panel had this dusty rust thing happening, and I didn't like it, so I painted just the new panel in satin black, and then put a flat clear over everything. I'm not sure how it will hold up long term, but it looks great in my eyes right now! I painted the dash in an army green, and cleared it as well. That green is pretty close to the original colour.
