ya, l know, a tribute car,,,seems to be my thing lately for some reason & l can't figure out why[S

l started working on the vintage modified/dirt jalopy street legal race car today.

this will be a slow build, but a fun one.

a two tone red is what l am planning for a paint scheme.

a SBC 350 will power this thing, auto tranny & rearend yet to be determend.

l'm going to remove about 24'' out of the middle and make it a two door. l want to leave the windshield, glass in the doors, side rear windows and back window.

the basis for this build is a track legal 2001 dirt car modified chassis, with all the adjustable suspension so l can tune it the way l l like it to ride and handle.

l will try and finish it in a year or so, then l want to get sponsers or whatever shows and tracks l can take it to for the purpose of raising funds for cancer awareness and research.

l lost dad, mom, several other family members and some real good friends to this awful disease.

l know many other have had this happen in there lives or had cancer themselves.

this in some small way is my way of giving back to the good people who helped us doing the hard times.

Sounds like a cool project and a noble cause! A year huh, I'm gonna try to beat you on the road with the Willys.........since you already beat me once with the truck :D

[P[P[P

[and l beat ya to 2OOO posts, haahahaahahahhahaaaahahaa:D]

ya really need to get that old girl going SF, l hope ya beat me by a long time.

today's plan, cut the roof and remove the back 1/2 of the body off the frame.
gonna start with 21 1/2" removed from the car and trim to fit, it's always easier to cut than to add metal.

l don't feel bad about cuttin' up this car, the floor pans & trunk were almost completely rusted out, as in non existent anymore, and the area under the doors is completely gone. it would cost more to fix this car than it is worth, so a HOT ROD she will be.

progress

slow going on the jalopy build, but got a little more done.

the roof bowed a little bit more than l wanted, but the brace from side to side will keep from collapsing any further.

ready to pull the back 1/2 off the frame when l get a few friends over to help.

hack job

got the rear fenders off today, even with all the rust in the floor pans there are some things that won't move with out some ''persuasion'' :D

a cut off wheel, air sheet metal shears and a hammer are a good thing when ya don't care about the inner fender-wells , 'couse there getting cut out to fit the race chassis any way.

l cut the rear fenders close to the main body so l could get to the bolts, they were rusted out junk at the bottom edges.

one nice thing about the rear of the car with those long fender opening's is there is a lot of adjustment for the wheel/tire placement after the car is put back together on the other chassis.

column

pulled out the steering column out today.

there is a guy in portland who wants to use it in a rat rod. l like when parts don't go to waste:D

now there is a bigger area to work in, next, the dash & the front seat is going to be removed. l think seat's to far gone to save, probably be scrapped. l'll keep the dash and list it on CL to see if anyone wants it.

removal

still plug'in away. not going as fast as l would like, but made some progress.

removed the rear doors, some more of the trunk and fenderwell sheet metal, that made some huge rear openings. next is getting the body mocked up and sitting on the chassis. l have to line up where the rear tires sit on the back half of the body, then sit the front half on and make the cuts to get everything looking proper and welded back together.
