Went to a charity show at the local Eagles Club. The temperature and humidity were meeting at 90. Not too comfortable for us northern folks. One rat rod drove in, saw all the pretty cars and left. I stayed. Here's a sample:

"I just bought a new Ford"
"Did ya get a Falcon?"
"No, I got a good deal."

You guys just about nailed it. I'm usually not critical of builds, but this one bothers me. A little background; this was a "voting event" in that we could nominate one street rod and one custom for "Car of the Year" in the Minnesota Street Rod Assn. This guy had "Vote for me signs on his entry. That alone doesn't set well with me. Then he spent a crap-ton of money building (or more likely had built) this thing that makes no sense. The craftsmanship is outstanding, BUT what is it? A COE with a mid engine big block Ford made to look like it is the engine for the Deuce body grafted on the back. A ramp truck without the ramps. An incomplete deuce phaeton body permanently stuck on the back so it is unusable, unless someone wants to ride in it like a rumble seat.
I doubt he'll have to worry about anyone copying his concept.

Dr. Crank, this is right up your alley; the melding of many GM cars into one. Most of them are early fifties, but I think the body is maybe a '57 chev.

Sorry for the confusion, guys, I was looking at the first picture in the second set.

I was wondering what you were referring to Mac. That's a fairly stock-bodied 1954 Buick. I'm not sure whether it's a Special or a Century. In either case, it looks like past having some emblems and handles shaved that the body wasn't modified too far from stock.

It seems pretty silly to me too. I can't say I've seen one done this way before. Thanks for sharing with us Bob!

Like I've said before, I'm not a GM man, [and I'd like to keep it that way,], but I thought the down-swoop at the top, back of the door was too deep for a '54, the bump of the fake tail-fin was more 'straight-eight' Pontiac, and the grill was earlier than '54.

All the things you mentioned, when combined, are essentially unique to a 54 Buick (In this body style at least, some Pontiac's of various years did have the bump-fin as well). GM did reuse styling cues between makes and years. Most "GM guys" wouldn't be able to identify a 54 Buick either :p

It's funny how GM did things back in the day. Buick and Oldsmobile went to the larger new-style body in 1954, but Chevrolet and Pontiac waited until 1955.
