I know there are some Patina lovers out here, so I figured I would share something that you guys may already know, but I figured it was worth a shot.

I like patina myself, however, I don't like big rust bubbles, i prefer for a soother finish, especially if I am going to clear coat the surface to 'freeze' the patina in time. So while I was cleaning up some stainless trim on the dash of the old 50 Chevy over the weekend, I thought....

What would happen if I try this 'Diet Coke and Aluminum Foil Trick' on other surfaces... I must say I was happy with the result. It removed the dirt from the surface also removed some rust 'humps' but didn't disturb the beauty of the patina....

More Photos to come...

Do you have a front end on this car or is it just the way the picture looks [S buy the way , I would like to have the smoother feel also. I dont mind the rust look , just so its not eating my truck away as we speak .

No Stick

Good idea! Looks like it did the job. Is it all sticky now?

They say a little rum will take the sticky away [S

Good trick CC [cl
Thanks

I found out if you use diet coke, it doesn't get sticky, there is no High fructose Corn Syrup... Also, I wiped it down with some Dollar Tree window cleaner and that removed any residue and didn't affect the finish. :)

More Photos...

Ok... so some more photos, I'm hoping that you will be able to see the difference, or lack of difference I guess...lol....

the left side is before and right side is after, it looks to have brought the 'red' up more in the color table... I think I maye finish the dash and then clear the whole thing with a matte finish.... [S

I will have to try that . I have been wiping my rust - oops mean patina - down with linseed oil twice a year ,spring and fall , for 7 years . Gives it a bit of a shine for a week or two , then settles in to a nice smooth look . Never felt the need to clear coat it as it has looked the same from day one .
