condenser on coil

condenser on coil???

what's a condenser on the coil do?will it keep car from running?just got a 64 caddy..it was running..i took dis.cap of of to clean up the points..put it back together and tried to restart and nothing..then i noticed that the condenser wire on the coil was broken into,so im assuming this is the problem since all i did was open the points and clean them with sandpaper..already have new condenser(havent put it on yet).was just wondering what purpose it serves and if it would prevent car from running, firing...

if the one inside the distributor is broken , no fire, if the one on the coil is bad no problem, most of the time its there for radio noise

i adjusted the points by sight cause i didnt have my feeler with me..it fired right up..must of got knocked out of spec when i cleaned them..
