Here's an ol skool trick some may not know about. I got a cheap ebay radiator in the Studebaker. It has a small filler neck with a 90 degree angle that makes it slow filling the radiator. And my off shore made thermostat has a tendency to make the engine temp go way up to 230 or more before it opens. So the trick is to drill two holes in the thermostat that allows water to pass through and this helps fill the radiator and allows water to pass as it heats up. This way the engine warms up slower and more evenly.
