progress

Progress is progress… as long as the project is moving forward, that is a great thing…:D

I also like the bumper right side up, those Dagmar's need to be displayed, not hidden on the bottom side...;)

Thanks! I had to google Dagmar's.... thank you for expanding my knowledge/history!

Shifting Gears

Stumbles across these two as a package deal on CL :)

Two turbo 350's for a cool Benjamin....

One long shaft and one short shaft!

I'm gonna do it!

I had a guy needing some wheels to fit his camaro in lieu of his 20's which were too big.... I think I'm gonna roll these on the 50 for a little bit :D

In other news... going to snag a chassis for a swap in the near future [;)....

Chassis Swap...

I'm in the midst of a chassis swap for my 65 C10 project… so I can relate to the fun...[S

But of course

What type chassis ???
Inquiring minds want to know.:D
Torchie.

~1st off... Torchie, you are my hero! I admire your die hard work ethic despite the adversities that stand before you!~

With that said it would be an honor to answer your question...:D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There has been quite a bit of controversy over the use of a caprice from under a 50 model Chevy...
A fellow from my hometown pulled this off and then track tested the car, so I know that it can functionally work.
Anyway...
I successfully scored a 1983 Chevy Caprice from an auction at a police head quarters (starting to sound like something from a story book, I know) The add said 83 caprice, won't start. I have a few motors sitting around, so I figure use the chassis... worse case motor swap. so I drag is home and just for kicks toss a hot battery under the hood. Motor turns over with the starter (good sign, it's not locked up). so I get a can of starting fluid (of course)... turns over and over and over and over.... then a little sputter.... so I grab a can of gas pour alittle in the quad-ra-jet and vroom.... fires up then sputters out....
So I'm going to check fuel pump, and see what happens either way I"m moving to the next step... body-swap [;)
The guy who did this swap successfully, is no longer with us, I found out that he passed away last year at the age of 34 I believe... so I will definitely be putting the magazine that his car is featured in, in a special place in the 50 as a remembrance for the encouragement he gave me and all other builders out there.
Good score [cl chevy on a chevy, like that too. Keep us posted [P
Thanks for the props CC13.:D
It's always a bonus when they run.[cl[cl
Looking forward to watching the frame swap.[;)
Torchie.
Thanks fellas!
Got in yesterday evening... was about to pull the fuel pump and decided to check a couple more things out. Pulled the line off the carb and fuel started spewing out of the line... I pulled the hosing that hols the fuel filter, found a brand new filter that was BONE dry.. didn't even smell of gas... [S
Turn out there was a spring loaded check valve (I think), that got lodged into the filter shutting off fuel flow. Removed that and she fired up. :D
Ran like a tracor messed around with is a little had it running smoother and realized there was no coolant in the radiator... dumped some water in.... uh oh... water was running out the driver side of the motor:confused:, looks to be just behind the motor mount. I'm hoping it is a freeze plug that just popped out, or was leaking before... Looks like i'll find out soon enough. Motor seemed to have decent power transmission pulled in forward and reverse... so we shall see what happens!:cool:
Some filth in the engine bay LOL
Figured I would attach some pictures of what I saw....
I tossed the air pump, it was locked up and serving no purpose, other than weight.
One more question...
I've got a considerable amount of smoke coming out of the passenger side valve cover up the feeder tube to the breather... any ideas on what that smoke could be cause by? It smells like burning oil, I'm thinking with the old 305 is worn out and it's exhaust smoke leaking up through the valve seals or it's a bad EGR valve or bad PCV ( although the PCV is on the driver side....)[S
"There has been quite a bit of controversy over the use of a caprice from under a 50 model Chevy..."
It's all doable.
A friend of mine put a 55 Chevy on a Caprice chassis. He had to cut the inner rockers out and pull the bottom of the body out a little to get it to fit.
I agree Old Iron that its all doable in some form of fashion....
My 1940 Chevy 4 door is now a two door shortened 6" on an S-10 frame with air-ride... it's going to be quite some time before that one is finished though... and a chunk of work, which I enjoy, just haven't found the time for lol...
I found this article:
http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/forty-niner/
Unfortunately the builder of this ride died last year... I'm sure the car is still in my area somewhere... I may try to locate it, but I didn't want to appear rude in my attempts around the delicacy of his passing less then a year ago. The article didn't mention any widening of the body and I also haven't seen any evidence from the pictures I have found. I have attached some images I have collected. Only time will tell what all it will take... I know with my crazy plan of running 20" rims I will probably have to do something... or go with a different size wheel at the least LOL I am also planning on a channel, but as the floor is already gone in the Chevy, I won't be 'losing much', plus I channeled my 40 Chevy and was happy with the result... well so far hahhaa... I haven't put the floor in yet...:eek:
Thanks for the comments, they keep me on my toes and thinking about all it will take to pull this one off.
I have some more pics in the magazine I will upload as well.
Read the article. WOW!
$2000 and 6 weeks. He was a man on a mission.
Hope things work out with the engine.
So now you have 5 1/2 weeks and counting.[P :D [P
Torchie.
Tick...Tock.....
Found the other pics.
Got home for a little between church and work and filed the radiator... or at least tried to.....
Looks like there is a section of the head gasket that was blown out[S like an inch long maybe... the water basically filled up the block enough to where is was running out between the head and block.. so I'll have to investigate that later... in the mean time.. body swap! :D
One Wild Weekend
Well.....;)
Friday I chopped up the 83 caprice... and removed the frame from the 50... it's a shame it was so botched up, it really wasn't in bad shape other than the complete mess in the front! Took off a load to the scrap yard and then went with the old man and got some firewood... good times...
Photos of the horrid Sub-Frame
Probably the worst attempt I have seen at sub-framing here...:eek:
Put the old 64 to work on dragging the old frame from under the car and then off to the scrap yard it goes...
the old 64 just didn't have enough and went to draggin the top of the caprice off as well...:D
