Been chipping away at the box ... fitting the interior panels and getting them welded in. I put it back on the bug today to get the final measurements for the floor but then I got distracted with my shiny new steering column and just had to figure out where it was going to go. Because I used a double u joint between the column and the intermediate shaft I will have to get and install a support for the shaft but at least now I know where its going to go. :D

The box is done. Got a little oil canning in the floor but I've never tried the heat shrinking process before so not to sure on how to get rid of it - or even if I can. Anyway, some seam sealer and spray on bed liner and it will be ready to reinstall.

The bed looks cool. Likely a couple dents will make the oil canning go away. Heat shrinking or stretching isn't difficult once you sort out which way it needs to go.

Updates on the bug project ... the doors have been capped, an X crossmember has been fitted to the frame for better rigidity and I have repurposed an old flexplate shield to serve as the front of the trans tunnel. Not totally happy with the doors but it will be yet another case of bondo to the rescue. Rather slow progress but progress never the less!

Working on the floor now. Got it all framed in and ready to start sheeting it in.

Of course I had to mock up some seats and do some dreaming behind the wheel - even convinced my wife to come out and try it on. :D Didn't get any pictures of this though.

Doesn't look like there's any chance of spongy floor boards there for sure.
The ole butt test is immensely important. If it isn't comfortable I tend to drive something else that is. [cl[cl[P[P

Turns out this is trickier than I thought! Oh well - onward we go. The transmission and driveshaft tunnel is done ... far from good but hopefully it will be good from far. A little bit of bondo and some spray on bedliner will go a long way to hide my lack of talent - or perhaps cover it with carpet. The rest of the floor should be somewhat easier as it will just be flat panels for the most part.

looks good to me... [cl
One thing you may want to consider; If you weld the panels to the frame ,try punching a bunch of holes in the lip and weld them shut. When welding the edge it will create a gap between both.
