Well.... where to begin?

About 15 years ago I came across this 1940 sedan in my GREAT uncle's posession and asked him what he was planning for it, after himming and hawwing around for the next 3 years nothing was done the car was sitting out in the weather, racoons living in it, etc. I asked him again a few years later and he said I guess you should do soemthing with it, so I moved it in a shop building, out of the elements in which he lost his mind about telling me not to move it or touch it, so back out it went, but this time on a concrete slab, it sat there for the next 8 or 9 years, then one day I ask him out of the blue and he says, I'm getting too old and not doing anything with it, get it out of here I don't want to see it, I immediately got the chainsaw/trailer/winch and began removing the old heavy chevy.

The image attached is after I cut back most of the brush that was in the way.

These are some pics before and after after I got it to the house. I ended up gutting what it had for interior, the water damage from the broken windows was more than I wanted to deal with as far as re-upholstery was concerned. As I was removing the front seat I round a big rat under the seat, I really should have taken a picture, it was about 12" long without its tail!

I decided to preserve the tin by hitting her with a coat of rustoleum flat black, this worked out really well on my 64 C-10 that I built lat year (probably another thread i should do)

I initially thought the floors were solid enough to use, as they didn't have any flex in them when I was messing around removing the interior, turns out that the previous owner had poured about a 1/2 inch of fiberglass resin over the floor to thicken things up and it added strength too, but it all has to go away I'm going totally steel on this baby!

So.... I went on the hunt for a frame, because I looks at the mustang two set up and really didn't want to shell out that much cash, since I was thinking about heavily modding the car.

I pickup up an el-camino for like $160. it was too wide up front, so i parted it out and went with an S-10.... through all my looking I came across something that I wasn't planning on but for $500 how could I pass on an S-10 frame that had 2" Drop spindles, Tubular upper and lower control arms, And Bags already installed, oh yea and a 4 link in the rear and C-notched, So I shouldn't have any issues laying this baby on the ground!

Pictures of the frame, this as after some clean up and gloss black paint, still a ways to go on it, but at least it's a start, not to mean a big jump further forward then I thought Id be..

Yeah, he definitely and completely fills the role of the crazy uncle...LOL. But I know that God had this all planned out, I probably would have royally messed this car up or sold it or something if I would have gotten it when I was younger.

The Plan

I like to plan, used to despise it, but as I've gotten older I've grown in wisdom, planning is everything when it comes to a build!

With that said, I'm planning on making this a coupe, I was going to keep it a sedan, BUT I'm going to dare and be different. :D

I have a couple rough photo-shops that I have done... what do you guys think?

l like the plan to make it a 2 door[;)

the wheels you have on the chassis will look really good with the body lines of the "new" coupe[cl

A little progress

I made a little progress, added some bracing to the frame, and cut off some of the old S-10 Cab mounts. Busy weekend, my Daily Driver laid down on me, so I was waiting on parts to get it back up and going... so I squeezed in a little work time.:D
