As a kid growing up in Detroit I always enjoyed going down to the river to watch the Gold cup races.
Big A#s'd Allisons and Rolls Royce Merlin engines stuck into a plywood hull.
Crazy fast and at times very unstable.
We used to skip school and go down for the time trials. Back then you could walk around the pits and talk to the drivers.

The friend of mine who has that Econline pickup we are still tinkering with, his father rescued a sinking boat about that size, got a good deal, 455 Olds equipped with berkley jet drive.....we did open it up but the waterways in Fort Laud had the wake zones, and being between inlets it would take a while to get it out to the open sea.
