I was watching Mecum auctions going on this weekend on the telly & was surprised at how many cars didn't make the reserve & how high profile cars were struggling. Like 60's Vettes... saw some beautiful Stingrays go in the 60's. Previously these cars had been gavelling between $75-100K. Also saw a lot of not so collector cars & trucks go for great prices. Good thing I wasn't there! [ddd[ddd[ddd

I was at a Mecum sale a few years ago, in Chicago. The same thing was going on there too.
A friend of mine took an absolute killer custom 57 Chevy sedan delivery on a Vette chassis.
The high bid was $50k and the reserve was $70k
He had to have 70 to break even.
We took it home with our tails between our legs.

The last auction I went to was almost 20 years ago. There was a 71 Cougar convertible there that caught my eye. It said NO RESERVE on the windshield. So I gave it a good going over. Then I sat around for a few hours watching the show and when it came up, it had a reserve on it. I was not a happy camper.

Yeah, I think the price on some of those "collector" cars got a little ambitious! I love seeing some of that stuff but not my bag! Recently saw a 50 year old car that only had 1,400 miles. What's the point?

Exactly! They're built to be driven, not stored and unused. As neat as it is to see one in unrestored as-new condition because I was born way too late, it's a shame they weren't enjoyed and used as intended.
