Hey guys,

I keep mulling over putting a flatbed on my 63 chevy. The problem is that flatbeds pretty much always look like oakie farm trucks but yet i can't keep thinking that i would like a flat bed on my truck (maybe i'm a corn fed oakie at heart). Post as many flat bed hot rod/rat rod/work truck pics as you have. I want to get some ideas to see if i can pull off an asthetically pleasing flat bed. thanks guys!

Ok....

Sorry, I just had to do this.....:)
It's a rat and has a flatbed.......sorry man....'22

Ok, Ok....

I said asthetically pleasing...........:D come on man.

This is the only picture I have with me here (Russia) that could be considered a flat bed.
Yes, it is a car carrier, but the bed setup looks cool and it is flat.
So, maybe it will give you some ideas.
Flat beds always look "half done" to me because the frame over the axle sets the bed too high, but this looks good. At least to me. '22

thats better :D, actually, i was kinda thinking about that, i think it looks alot better like that where you can't see the frame, i see alot with the whole frame visible and it looks terrible. anyone got anymore, show me your beds! :p

I usually don't do this type of thing, but I'll put up a couple of pics for ya.:) Not all rats but all flatbeds of various varieties.

heres my old daily griver it an 03 dodge flatbed with one stack in the pic later before i sold it it had two stacks

Joe, just an opinion here but I think the way to keep a flatbed from looking so much like a farm truck is to lower the bed and then build a small tub for the top of the tire. The visual impact of the tubs could be minimized with short stake sides. 22dodge sort of said the same thing earlier, I'm just throwing out a possible solution.

Gastrick,
As always, you are the (pic) man.

Joe,
I have never done it before but wouldn't think it would be too awfull hard to build a flat bet that would look cool and not expose the frame.

Gastrick, can you come up with some pics of some rodeo trucks where the bed sits low and compliment the truck itself...

Choo-Choo Customs
Southern comfort custom conversions
Phase III vans

Just trying to toss out some more ideas...

I'll see what I can do Flat.

i'm thinking the lower i go like you said the better it will be, i also wouldn't have it sticking out past the sides of the cab either. I almost think it would look better with some really big tubs for the tires as i want to put huge tires on the back. it dosn't have to be the most practical flat bed. I'm just wanting something different and i'm thinking it might weigh a bit less too? not sure.

hey! you stole my truck and maybe it all shiney! :D

actually, i think i know what i want now. I am going flat bed, short flat bed. I was looking at some pics on the forum and was inspired by boneheads truck. Being that my truck has coil suspension and not leaf spring. I can hack off the frame all the way back to the rear suspension. Put some HUGE tires on it, make the flat bed slim and fit between the tires. keep it low all the back to the cab. I might put fenders on it, probably not. I think it will look better with no rear fenders but be more useful with them; so i'm undecided on that part.

What do you guys think? Am I overlooking something? I know traction will be a bear with no weight over those wheels. I also figure my towing capabilities will be reduced but plan to never tow anything huge.

most flat beds that i know of(if there all steel) are pretty heavy and some times heavy'r than the original bed this was the case on my dodge truck half ton i bet the bed was at least 250 pounds heavy'r but it depends of course on the bed you will be using:D
