Another little trick that helps is use a 1/4" rod with panel clamps helps hold the gap secure.

Just an idea

SS If you have ever seen the Ron Covell video on chopping and sectioning, he cuts the center out of the roof and fills it as you would on a 30s veh. His comment was it keeps the welding out of the center and closer to the edge where it could be planished easier. Remember every cut line is two weld seams. May want to see if another skin could be sourced, if you measure the total weld lengths I am sure the perimeter method would be less welding, Less warpage. What you have done looks great just wanted to throw it out there.

That's how i've done it for some time. Works well, give the top the right shape.

I did one like that and have seen several but when using another top the problem I had was it made it "domey" and made a "trough" around the edge from the stretch.Maybe using a skin from a different model would be the answer.I guess if this fails I have that option. lol Thanks

Well I started the center section, straightened out a cut lines and moved any C clamps. I bought a motorcycle lift, from HF makes the best adj work table. lol

I'm pleased but the truth will come when all the welding is done and the clamps removed.

Did you use the skin from the same model vehicle or something different?

I used a buick 2 door, chevy-buick-olds all the same for the year. Wider by a little long enough to cut to length.
Yours is coming out very nice indeed. my biggest mistake was grinding the welds and getting things to hot, learned about hammer work
Keep up the good work and pix coming [P
