I have been looking at this truck for over five years now, sitting in my neighbors yard.several years ago he offered it for around $3000. A couple weeks ago I was talkin to him and offered him a grand. It is now in my shop. once I got it cleaned out it was in better shape than I thought. not sure what direction I'm goin but im thinkin about a gasser type build. I have a 327 that was in our drag car and a disc brake rear end from a camaro.looking for a 4 speed saginaw or muncie. And yes I think I will leave the patina like it is. maybe not I'm very partial to black.

Looks like a pretty solid truck in those pics.

Are you going to cut it down to 1/2 ton size?

I might .I kinda like it the way it is. I am thinking a longer wheel base will help to keep it from gettin sguirly.I plan on putin a prety high windin 327 in it. I want it to go strait. I could shortin the box and move it forward and take some off the rear rails. but then there is the thought that rear weight would help traction. Hell I don't know yet I will change my mind 10 times on things be for I am finished.right now I am in what you might call resurch and development.

Pretty sweet looking truck, I like it. I'd put that thing in the weeds, chop the top and get a running motor in it and drive the crap out of it.

Install the motor get it running and drive her just the way she is[dr
I love the look already and it is a strong clean looking truck.

I got some spare time so I got out all my implements of destruction( cut off wheel, grinder, sawsall and a full can of PB blaster) and started some tear down.I'm still not sure what direction im goin, still thinkin gasser. either way I want to box the frame and install some ladder bars or a 4 link.

this is the engine I want to use. it came out of my wifes old monte carlo drag car. it is a small journal 302 (that's right 302 this is an old Z/28 engine),ported heads,11:1 comp. solid lifter cam.will probably change cam and intake.would like to run a 4 speed, but will probably use what I already have.to save some cash.

serious work begins.

ok I.ve had this truck for a year it is time to get something done. It took me for ever to decide what I was going to do .I have a general plan, I 'm sure it will change some. the gasser idea is out .I am going to shorten and lower it.

I decided to cut 21" out of the frame and 22" off the front of the bed. after some measuring it worked out that the rear part of the frame would lap over the forward section of frame kind of self gusseting.

next up is a c- notch and rear suspension.I boxed the frame forward as far as I needed .will do the rest later.I bought a triangulated 4-link kit.used some coil overs I had left over from an old racecar. and fabed up a sway bar. the rear end is from a 95 s-10 .it is the shortest rearend you can get. I would like to get some big tires under the fenders.

What made you decide on 21"? You'll have a pretty short bed, just wondering.

Check out mine, same bed. I'm using a 2WD S-10 rear (s-10 frame as well) with 15x10" wheels and 3-3/4" backspace, allows me to run 31x10.5R15 tires with a small tub in the bed. Works great.

Looking again that input shaft on your rear doesn't look like S-10?
