Ok Hemi gurus.
I spotted a supposed 241 Hemi that the owner claims is from a 1955 DeSoto.
My info shows that they stopped making the 241 in 1954.
And it was Dodge that had them, not DeSoto's.
Any body know what the real story is?
I would appreciate any help.

The 241 was the smallest of the Dodge Red Rams. Desoto didn't have a 241 hemi.
That's what I know as well, bruno . I messaged the seller some questions but have yet to hear back.
My understanding is that the unmarked valve covers were used in trucks with Hemi's
So if those are original to the engine it was from a truck.

All I know is that they are purdy in any size. :D

Would look really nice in a chopped section custom[cl

Ah to dream......
Yes indeed to you both. Only wants $4000 for it. Claims total rebuild with all the documents to prove it.
Never been run.
If it's all true even at that price it would be cheaper then finding one and rebuilding it.
I just got a message back and he's got it listed for someone and he gave me their number. He also told me who did the work and it's a pretty well regarded shop in my area.
Better go buy a lottery ticket. [ddd

If ya build it stock you'll be OK but, if the cam is bad or expect to get a performance cam for it then that's a different story.
This is a 270 Dodge Hemi and we couldn't get a cam for this without having the original reground and waiting 6 months :(
The expense of building it was more than my 392

This one appears to be a stock rebuild with the addition of a 4 barrel
Oi.
I may call the builder tomorrow. But I don’t like to be a tire kicker . 😳

I'd just get Hemi valve covers and put them on a junkyard 318. Save $3,800.:D

Lol. Sounds like a winner to me, bob 😎
Since I’m going to be using a g body platform I suspect it will end up with a SBC in it. I will dress the engine appropriately though😎

The thought of using old hemi valve covers on a SBC has crossed my mind a time or two. i think an adapter plate would work to mount the fake covers over the stock ones, but then the headers would look strange. The $200+ price tag is enough to keep me honest, though. :D

...and he doesn't know exact details on what it is/where it came from?
Seems odd. [S

The guy that has it listed isn’t the seller BED
He did give me the sellers number.
I don’t think it’s shady and like I said I’m familiar with the shop that did the rebuild.
It’s not going to happen but it’s been too hot to work here so I’ve been looking at the classifieds. 🙀

Just keep the hood closed Torchie and nobody will ever know.[ddd After all, customs look better that way anyhow.....[ddd[ddd[ddd

I don't think any of the valve covers for those were stamped instead they had stickers. I know the 270's were stickers.

Good to know, OI.
Thanks

Torchie, you know it's sacrilege to disguise a SBC as a cool motor like a Hemi. On the other hand, I might try to make a Poly 318 into a mock Hemi.
Once you've figgured out what transmission you're going to have, ask a few questions about the bellhousing. Can you get an adapter or do you need the existing bellhousing?
Go for it.
