Default General C4 transmission questions

I've got 2 questions, one for the professional transmission mechanic and one for the everyday DIY guy.

Mechanics: is there some sort of test to see if a transmission is in proper working order?
-I thought I'd test it before I attempt to rebuild and keep in mind the car is not running yet

DIY: have you ever rebuilt a C4 transmission?
-I've heard the C4 is one of the easier transmissions to work on.
What was your experience?

Thanks all

DIY guy here. I do a road test after buying a "working" trans privately, requires an install in my truck, if it drives and smokes the tires, I'm good. Its a gamble each time. A bum result becomes a core.

My last C4 never needed to come apart, would roast em on demand.
