Finished building the structure and got the cab unloaded. Lumber cost came in under $200. Not easy lifting that 8ft 4x8 up on top. Your lift sounds creative Torchie. Nice touch reaching about the truss. Looking forward to getting the cab mounted. I recall your A frame Joe. Good stuff.

I hope the strap didn't bend the drip rails. It puts too much pressure on them and all I've see done that way were bent.
Nice job on the support.

Skull mentioned those drip rails a while ago Iron. Took his advice and placed a barrier to spread the load between the cab and straps. Test fit the cab on the shortened chassis. Wheelbase looks better. Glad I'm working at home. Can clock and hour or two in the shop after work. :D

Hit a snag. My front frame mounts are fine, but the original attach points in the cab floor are too weak to support the cab. Mild distortion in the floor when I set the cab down. Going to plan B. Will make new mounts and transfer the load to the vertical steel channel seen in the photo. That should do it. What's a little rust. :)

Looking great.
Nice job on the lift.[cl
I stick the bottom of my up rights into two level of cement blocks with a couple of tube of sand thrown on top to keep them from moving since I am too far from a wall to brace them. The upper part of the up rights attache to a cross piece that get clamped to the bottom of the trusses.
I also mae up a 2 x 10 with heavy eye bolts on each end. I put that thru the windows and attach the lift strap to the eye bolts. No chance of damage.
I know what you mean about getting the cross piece up there. Mine is 10 foot treated 4x6. And with my fake leg climbing ladders is always interesting.
I did it when my wife wasn't around to watch.[ddd

I rebuilt the floors on my truck and the body mounts were offensively rusted wobbly. I rebuilt them with some 11 gauge, I like your solution better.

Thanks guys. Be careful Torchie. Ladders can be dangerous. Had one kick out on me once. Been thinking about my cab floor Joe. You nailed it with "offensively rusted". I'm back on the front mounts. [;)

OK. I'll play devils advocate. Rebuilding the floor will do two good things. Give the truck a floor, and give a solid mounting point for the nice mounts that are already build. :D

Been thinking about your suggestion Skip. [S
Decided to go with both plans, and have 4 mounting points in front. This will give me a solid base and a stronger floor. Cut my front mounts off above the base and added a flat stock extension in the middle to support the channel. I will gusset it next and box the channel. Tacked only, will clean up the ugly welds after i'm happy with it.

4 mounts should be enough!

on my 46 chevy the floor and the mounts are two separate parts, so after rebuilding the wishy washy floor my reward was to rebuild the mounts. I chose 11 ga, boxing the mounts to the cowl. I am not one for over-engineering preferring "just enough and a squinch more", but this one I think maybe they will find it as the only piece remaining of humanity after the sun burns out.

Thanks Joe. :D Great Stuff! I'm determined not to have a sagging cab.:)

distraction

I'm happy with the front mounts, working on the rear. Need to grind out this "bumtangle" as you described it Joe. I agree with your reference to Dante's version and Bundy. I recall when they "administered" voltage to that guy back in 89. [ddd

Been distracted with two 4 bangers, one air cooled. Long days mean good flying weather. The boys are bummed about their boat, engine block is cracked bad. Has some kind of prototype Renault engine, 1.3, with 80hp. I'm thinking a swap of some sort [S
The boys think i'm nuts, and want to junk the boat. One of my running 2.8's perhaps. Don't want the boys hauling the boat to the dump just yet.

I swear the easiest way to deal with that thing would be to just cut the freaking frame in that section. I always seem to go just a hair too deep with my cutoff wheels.
