Starting yet another dream. Merging a 1954 Studebaker Starlight Coupe with some early jaguar parts (1954 Jaguar engine and transmission along with bits and pieces from the 1959 jag that donated parts to Roofus). Thinking along the lines of a sports car/ road race type theme.

We found it on Craigslist 450 miles from my house. We went and looked at it this weekend and struck up a deal. Gotta go back with a trailer sometime soon.

I can't tell if the previous owner was building a drag car or a street car. Fiberglass lift off front cap, fiberglass truck lid, fiberglass dash, fiberglass rear bumper, new weather stripping, NICE aluminum radiator, butchered firewall to make room for the Cadillac motor that supposedly used to be there and some really questionable looking front suspension work.

When we get it to dad's house we will start mocking stuff up to see what looks like it might work.

Anybody have any studebaker odds and ends laying around? I need:

1) a drivers side window regulator and inside handle
2)both outside door handles
3)both inside door handles
4) trunk latch pieces

Hood is supposed to be hinged, but it is riveted to the front cap. None of the inner fender stuff is on the car, not sure If I want to go back stock or fab something. Any Stude guys have any input?
 
My favorite Stude body style! Buddy has one with a 454 in it. Jag IFS would be an improvement for sure. Add a Jag IRS and you'll have a corner burner. Don't know anything about the Jag engines, I'd have to put some kind of small block V8 in it.

Dual overhead cam, hemi-head straight six with split manifolds and dual carbs from the factory. It wouldn't be stupid fast but it should be enjoyable to drive and listen to.

We talked about jag suspension too, but it may be the wrong width. I will put a tape measure on things.

By the way, I bet they lock or delete your hamb thread. Somebody locked one over there today on putting a Jag IFS under a pickup. Dang thread was three years old and some newbe posted on it. They've got plumb stupid over there.

The HAMB guys are suggesting a Cadillac motor instead of the jag motor.

They are pretty but the body is kinda flimsy. I'm gonna do things differently than what studebaker did when I fix the floors.
 
Surfing the net, I found this one. It supposedly has jag front and rear suspension. I wish I could find pictures of the chassis.

As far as I'm concerned, they don't need chopped :(

That orange and black one has some funky body work / mirrors that looked like a bandaid for a boo-boo during the chop.

I plan on leaving the roof stock height....but I want to slam the car. It would be great if it handled really well too.

Friend of mine has { or had, not sure if he still has it or not, haven't see it or him in a while} a 53-54 with a 3"-4" chopped top. It looks OK, but to me it makes the car look longer than it really is. On his, instead of cutting the stainless windsheild moulding and welding it back, they overlapped it a couple of inches, with a screw through it, looked funky! [S

His is full of 454 with a narrowed 9" and MT Sportsman tires on back, kind of a Pro Street look. Tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn't sell it at that time.

Have you thought about using C4 Corvette suspension?
 
Since everything I do is low buck, I'm thinking about using jag suspension with the 70's jag alloy wheels. I don't care for them with the factory black accents, but I think they might look cool of they were polished or painted one solid color.

I love big wheels, but since the wheels won't be tucked way under the fenders, narrow 15's might still turn without hitting the fenders. I'm gonna go look and measure next week.
