On the alley fence meowing, somewhere in TN.
Grouchos thread about the stripped holes made me think of this tip.
These threaded inserts install with a gun that looks like a rivet gun.
They are great for putting threads in tubing, fiberglass, sheetmetal, etc.

MSC Supply sales these and the price is very reasonable. The install gun runs about 60.00 bucks. The gun I use is p.n. AA170.

The only thing i do not like about threadcerts is they like to strip out easily, mostly the aluminum ones.
 
Yep, we've been using them to install all kinds of stuff, and the knurled steel ones are great. The knurling keeps them from spinning in the hole.
