Prairie Fire - 50th Anniversary Drag Race

This past weekend, I attended our home track's 50th Anniversary event... a homecoming of sorts for me.

I had a great time with old friends, flames, burning rubber and the sweet smell of race fuel(s). I also shot a number of pictures and swiped a few from friends. (I'll credit those pics as they appear.) I missed a TON of photo ops (and ruined a pile more) but some turned out well.

Naturally, some RRR members came to mind and I'll tag them occasionally...

This car is a recreation/resurrection. The original was stolen, stripped, cut to pieces and dumped in a railway ditch.



All you Ford guys. CLEAN and hard-runnin' brothers.

The show was dominated by nostaglia funnycars... you couldn't wipe the grin off my face with a 2x4...

The car below is another resurrection. My good friend (Rich) crashed it 10 years ago and hung up his helmet. (His only racing incident in 40 years of racing.) Anyhow, it was sold, repaired and rebuilt...

... and now. Owned an driven by a 60 year old "rookie". Nice guy, now BB powered, runs 9.40's.



A pair of Pro Mods. The black car (in the other lane ) set and reset the track record. (For you aficionados, the conditions were exceptional for this location and time of year... some 20°F below normal, COOL and DRY!)

Yes... the current version, anyhow. In typical Fuel Altered fashion, Nanook and Rat Trap made some HAIRY passes. (Nanook left its mark on the guardrail first run!) I''ll bet somebody has video, I'll post a link if I find any...
