So I thought I'd start a build thread on the eliminator.
Little back story, 1 owner, 60,000 original miles. 1 of 6 cars in 1970 built in competition gold with white interior. Of those 6 it was the only car not to receive a sunroof and be sold to the hertz rent a racer program. It was sold in our home town in 1970.

We replaced the tank and got the car out in the sun yesterday

Damn, that's a cool car! I'm hope it's never restored, it's only a survivor if it survives!

You post great pictures and videos... this time, however, it seems someone turned the lights out for a few minutes. ;)

.

May I make a suggestion? Put a set of Magnum 500 wheels and white letter tires on it. I wouldn't mess with the stance, leave it like it is unless you want to do a rubber rake with some taller tires out back. IMHO, I don't think huge wheels with rubber band sidewall tires would look good on this car. Then clean up the paint and drive it! Like Dr C said, they are a survivor only once....

Bama picked the wheel, here's your tire...

Thanks guys. But the 15" wheels and raised white letters is not the owners idea of cool. I could go either way on the look. It won't get huge wheels ,17s at most. It is only going down about 2" s. It will not be restored. Cleaned and driven!

You can't tell me that doesn't look good. It won't get flashy wheels. Something rocket makes most likely. Will be tasteful and completely reversible.

Thanks Dr. My editing software sometimes Black's out sections if I speed it up from the original speed. I thought I fixed all that but I guess not

They say the customer is always right......
But I just couldn't do it to a 1 in 6 car.:(
But you gotta do what you gotta do I guess.:(

I was contacted by a guy who is part of the eliminator registry, he's a cougar guru. Hrbknew all about the car and has actually seen it when the original owner had it. He told me since it a small bock car it is still a collector just not a big money car. The interior adds value to it cause it is a 1 of 6, but making it handle and stop better will make it more appealing to a bigger group of people. Therefore not hurting the value, probably raise it. Everything we are doing is bolt on, 100% reversible. He will be keeping all the original parts

Love this car. I too would have a hard time changing things. Factory rally wheels maybe. But it is true, the best Cougar well never be as valuable as an identically built Mustang.

Rare 71 Cougar GT owner Skip.

Agreed, its not a mustang. We are leaving the stuff that makes it valuable. Changing the springs isnt going to change the value of the car. That's all we are doing. I promise I won't hurt the big orange kitty;)

I remember the first Eliminator I laid eyes on. A blue one in Hotrod magazine, I think it was the cover car. It was also a 427 car and somehow my adolescent brain figured they would all be. I don't know if I ever saw another side oiler Eliminator, seems like I read they only did around 50.
No Mustang was ever any cooler in my eyes. I still have a fond spot for them

Been alittle whole since we worked on this car. It got a good paint detail! Looks really good. Interior goes in next friday, then suspension work tires and wheels

Only seen one of these... owned by a young chick down the street from my parents. Any time she came to visit her parents, her brothers would steal the keys & be gone for a couple hours! Trust me... they paid for it in skin & blood when they got back... she loved that car & was a *really* feisty gal!
