Hey skip thanks for all the tips! I'll definitely have to get out a tape and measure all those points. Just by looking at it it seems they just put one fender on too far back cuz it hits the back of the seat area in a different spot too. This was a running driving car at one point yhey say. Never street legal but apparently it went down the road. The frame looks pretty straight ad far as I can tell. I'll have to get a tape out and see what we've got.

Ok well the current idea is to move the front axle forward about 13" to make the car flow better and also to help get a bigger motor in there. I'm thinking about a sbc now. [;) I wonder if the axle is moved forward I would think it would help the car handle better. It should help the flow of the car as well. Can someone photo shop a rough idea of the car with the front axle moved forward about a foot?

I really miss my photoshop. New computer won't run the old software.

Try this to get an idea of how it will look. Take the front tire off, and prop it up where you think it will end up. Then get a lawn chair and sit back about 15 feet or so and stare at of for a while. I think Bonehead calls it bucket time. :D Do it with and without the front fenders, if you are going to use them.

Have fun.

I've contemplated using the front end but it's just kinda ugly lol. I'll probably end up going with an open engine bay and I'm still undecided on the rear fenders. Thoughts??

The wheels do need to go forward.

In my mind, you need to keep the front end, but tweak it. The front fenders need to sweep back like the rear, but stretched out that extra foot. ....maybe push the fenders out in front of the grill shell a little.

I would also bob the rear of the body a tad.

Ok yall. As per skip, I did some bucket time and came up with this. I really like it! If you can see the jack handle (red bar) that's about where a grill shell should go and we will be in good shape!

Yeah I wish the rear of the bed was a little shorter too. Idk if I'm gonna change it though just cuz I'm torn on how much I want this to look like the original car. Apparently the car has history in my area. I don't know.

You are now a part of this cars history. Make it yours. Every hotrodder takes someone else's idea of perfection and fine tunes it to their own vision. Fifty years form now, when someone wants to restore it to its original wonderfulness, they will have more fun doing it if you make a few subtle changes.

This is fun! :D

Turn that into this. Push the front wheels out, longer hood, longer fenders, bob the rear....it's probably closer than you think.

MG TC. The local car shop had a fiberglass one I saw a week ago. I liked the fenders but im not sure about the running boards. I took the car out and got a few good pix today. I think I'm gonna have it be small block power and use the front end. The fenders may get changed but it'll be after the motor is in I think.
Pix should show before, after, and after with the front sheet metal on. I kind like the bed not bobbed. We shall see.

It's taking on a kind of custom hot rod look. Longer which I like but with the fenders it takes away a bit of the muscle and adds style. Still a little eccentric. definitely intrigued by it. [P I've got enough room now for a small block I think. Only problems may be how far down I can get it between the 19" apart framerails. The other issue may be the trans tunnel but I can cut that if I have to.

Ok so today I went out and messed with the car a bit. My brother and I were able to pick the car up on its side with relatively little effort and we got a good look at the way this thing was built. The history I'm finding is that the car was built in the Chrysler foundry and boy does that explain a lot! Everything is welded together and the thin stuff is burned through in a lot of places. That could be explained by the fact that foundries have big welders but nothing for thin stuff. Anyway, we took the opel trans out and then we took the front suspension out and put it out where I want it to be. The frame horns in the front are not entirely square so I'm gonna have to fix that to get it to sit tight but you can see where we are going. Now the wheels don't hit the cowl at steering lock! And they said this car drove at one time.[S so now I think we may be getting somewhere. The plan is to take the 305 out of my chevy and replace it with the 250 inline I have in the barn. Then take the 5 speed and the 305 and put in the roadster. Using what I have instead of going and buying more stuff. Hopefully that will help it get done faster!
[;)

Not too bad looking.
The long look is kinda growing on me. I think I'm gonna keep the body mostly the way it is and just paint it. I'm thinking 60s airbrush like really simple or a panel paint t job. It needs to be a bit wild i think to go with the look.

Ok so I'm piddleing with engines and I have a question for yall. I can't drive my c10 right now cuz it has no insurance and I have no $$. I am planning on putting an inline back in it I have in the barn and the v8 from the truck into the roadster. My question is this.

If I'm going to be putting the inline back in a truck I can't currently drive, should I try to start it out of the truck or should I just put it in the truck and get it running from there? The motor ran a few years ago and has been in dry storage for most of that time. I'm just thinking the wiring will already be there and it won't go anywhere!

What are yall thoughts and insight??
