Hmmm.. I think it would look goofy with those little quarter windows and the fender cutout in the door, kinda like an oversize Bantam, take out too much length and the cab will look out of proportion... I'm thinking to suicide the doors though by just swapping the hinges to the rear of the doors.

i just got a hood ornament like that a couple weeks ago.

i like your direction, i really like the headlight buckets, lol.

Got it home !!

Finally got the Caddy home, I was gettin' twitchy, wanting it here so I can tear into it !! Now I've had a closer look, it seems the body is really in decent shape as far as rot goes. Of course the wood is thrashed, but that is expected, got to redo it all in steel anyway.
It's a big car, 134" wheelbase, I'm going to reduce it to about 124" in the process of converting it to a 2dr. Most of the damage on the body is as a result of sitting around on a farm so long and getting pushed around plus scavengers taking stuff - the rad was torn out for the metal value, in the process, they destroyed the grille and cut apart the grille shell.

Yeah, I'll have to keep an eye on evilbay for another..... Cleaned the junk out of it today, ripped out some wood and evicted a mouse from the windshield header - can't have mice livin' in the Rat !

I don't know if you did it on purpose but it looks like you have about an 1 1/2" wedge chop going on in the top. I think it looks very good that way especially with the extra long hood. [P

Not on purpose, maybe just the way I positioned the pieces. The front doors do taper down to the front tho and shortenig the roof seems to accentuate it. I like it too, and will try to get it as close to that as I can.

Got the doors off and yanked out a buch of rotten wood, surprised to see this car had power brakes even tho they are mechanical, didn't know they had 'em then. It must have put a lot of people out of work when they stopped using wood - there is a ton of it in this car !!

Taking the car apart, came across some more interesting stuff. The lever shocks are adjustable by lever under the dash via rods and linkage. I tried moving the control lever on the shock and worked the arm, they still work great! :D You could tune the shocks as you drove for " town and country " driving - only the upscale cars nowadays have this feature - also it has a beefy rear sway bar.
Hmmm, them are worthy ratrod parts !!

No turning back now !

Liberated the rest of the wood from the body, marked and whacked the roof off. This is kinda like doing a race car body, just the skin is left !! Cowl and dash come off next, still some wood hiding in there. Then I can brace and square the pieces, lengthen the doors and start putting the puzzle back together. [S[;)[S[;)

Sounds easy enuff..

you should take the second photo back to the old owner and say " see what I did with that car!" Watch him fall down! [cl

You have the early version of selective ride control!

Progress!

Those frame rails look nice and beefy, are you going to try and use parts of the original frame or start fresh??
