Just curious. Anyone else here have a second job just to feed their rat? I recently started a second just for that. I want to see if i'm the only crazy one here. :D

I don’t, but it is definitely a good way to feed the addiction.
Trouble with it though, no time to work on the project.

When my family was young I took an evening job to increase our income. Problem was, everything at home was falling apart because I wasn't there to fix things, or maintain them. I was paying handymen to repair stuff, so it was a double edged sword.

My Son is in that dilema right now. He is working full time and playing in a band a couple nights a week, so he has a bunch of money, but no time or energy to work on his rod. Boxes and boxes of brand new parts keep showing up, but don't get installed.

You might try it for a short time, until you get a few bucks saved up, but generally two jobs are hard to handle.

Wize Guy has a very valid point...ALL the little things add up, especially when you want to feed that HP addiction......

You don't have to be on the other side of the world to miss stuff. I used to live in Texas so I miss What-A-Burgers, good mexican food, real BBQ, and salt water drum, trout, and red! Sonic is accessible but it is an hour away from me now. I know you are still worse off than me so I feel for you! Get back safe.

Joe, regarding your question, I tried that for a while when I was single, but it is much harder when you have a family. Time at home with famly is much more valuable than a few extra bucks a week for the rod.

Wizeguy said it best when he referred to controlling spending vs. making extra money. Just by packing left-overs for lunch instead of going out, buying cokes at the store vs. the vending machine, drinking beer at home vs. the bars, can add up to many dollars per month.

guys, i just want to lay the disclaimer out there that i am here under my own free will and can leave at anytime but i still want to gripe about it!! i am just in a odd mood today. but as an answer to the original question, the original reason for me taking this job was for my toys. only after being here a little while i realized the greater good.

flatbroke, you remember the hair dryer at full blast in the face fell..lol.. it started this week.

For me it has always been a time or money situation. When I had the time I had no money, when I had the money I had no time. The answer is to by all the parts when you have the money. Once the parts are all sitting there, the time starts to show up.

thats kinda what i figured. we don't have kids yet and my wife is in school at night so i figured i might as well be working. if we had kids i wouldn't even consider a part time job (unless i needed it, but if it was that bad i'd probably started cutting stuff out of the budget first). Hopefully i can get some stuff stockpiled and then cut my hours for a bit.

You guys are talking about budgeting, let me tell you something we did years ago that was a very surprising exercise. For one month we wrote down EVERY PENNY we spent. I kept a pad on my console of my car and wrote down gas purchases, etc. Every time we bought groceries we wrote it down, including stops at the 7-11 for a loaf of bread. I also planned meals so that if we made a roast on Monday, we used the left over beef to make stew on Tuesday. If I bought a pack of gum, I wrote it down.

This was suggested to me by a guy who was what I consider to be my Mentor in business, a very smart guy. He saw us struggling with a young family, and told me to do this program for one month and then he would sit down with me and see where the money was going.

At the end of the month, I was shocked to see we were spending more at the 7-11 for food than at the grocery store. I would go to get a loaf of bread, then pick up $ 20 worth of chips, ice cream, etc. all at inflated prices. But, by doing the meal planning routine, we would go to the grocery store and buy just what we needed to get us through the next week, and had everything there to make those meals, so no need to hit the 7-11.

We did that program for about 3 months, and at the end of it were in good shape financially again. I would suggest this to anyone, it will surprise you where your money really goes.

While I no longer do that drastic of a program, I still sort of prepare meals that last a few days. I love leftovers, so I make a big pot of chili, and have that during the week, or do the same with a roast or ham. I like to cook, so Sunday night I usually whip up something that I can munch on for lunches and dinner for a few days.

I've also found out that since I broke up with my girlfriend, I save a WHOLE lot of money. That old thing about two can live as cheaply as one........hahahahahahahahahaha.

i too totalled out only my copenhagen about for the year, at 1 can a day i could have bought many other items during this year........ now i just need to quit..lol..

I'm gonna tell on myself..
A pack of smokes is on average 4.25
copenhagen (the last I checked)4.65

I tallied it up for me and "Reason4" a while back: at the time
4.00 per pack for 2 people is 8.00 per day, times 365 days in a year...

Over 3000.00a year..Hows that for an eye opener....

And Don, You are right, Those things kill.....
Man I need to quit
