here is mine, its RHD but the concept is the same. ZF box from a 70s bmw 2002tii. cut the original pitman arm, used a lathe to make the splined hole fit into a piece of tubing, welded it in.
used a pitman and sector shaft from a 37 chevy, reamed the chev pitman for a 7 deg taper for ford tie rod ends.
 
The chain drop idea wasn't one of my better ones. It works but you just can't get roller chain tight enough and there is slop. 9 degrees of caster keep it going pretty straight. I've had a new Vega box on the shelf for a couple years and plan to ditch the cowl steering for cross steer.
I looked at a lot of different options and on my car, there is just no way for proper cowl steering and my feet to all be in the same place. Even some famous cars like the Doan Spencer car don't have room for size 13s
