This is a 34 Chev I built a few years ago, started with a complete stocker, does it qualify as a "traditional" hot rod? If y'all are interested, I'll post pics of the build.

Mannnn how many other builds you got hiding up those sleeves?

hand built roadster
your version of the ford.. the henaway or however you spell it
the 55 truck..
the caddy
two fantastic golf carts
and the Packard...

What else you got?

ZZ you're the reason I stopped posting pics of my build, I'm embarrested by my work, and the fact that I realy haven't got much done in the last 6 months. Post up the build pics please

Okay, okay!
Here's what I started with, a complete and supposedly running stocker. My first ebay purchase, what you might call a tremendous leap of faith in the online buying process . It came from Montreal Quebec and I dealt with a seller only speaking French, so it was interesting to say the least... Shipped by CN Rail to Vancouver, then trucked to my house, I discovered they didn't tie it down properly on the train so it bashed back and forth into whatever other freight was with it.. Front bumper, fenders damaged and the rear spare pushed the rear panel in. Fortunately their insurance paid for the damage after I gave them a couple of (ahem) "reasonable" repair estimates.

The shipper actually did me a favor, the fenders, running boards and rear lower panel below the spare were just held together with fiberglass, bondo and a prayer. The running boards weighed about 30 pounds each, there was so much mud on them :mad:.
Amazingly, the main body was rust free and the wood structure was sound, and the roof insert was fairly fresh. Seems like it had always had a good roof or spent a lot of its life indoors, saving the wood. What appears in the pics to be half decent paint was actually many layers of crap topped with thick clear - I had to scrape the whole works off. The guy I got it from had a collection of cars he loaned out to movie companies so it got pushed onto a few sets, one of the pics show it on a street in Montreal on a movie set. At one time it had been painted yellow and black, probably to pose as a taxi.

After a few months waiting for my claim to be settled, I pulled it out of the shed with the Hennway to start disassembly. I got enough money back to buy new fiberglas fenders, running boards and rear panel from Superior Glasworks plus a couple grand left over!! Flogged off the nasty stock parts on ebay plus a lot of other parts I wasn't going to use so it was looking like a better deal all the time...

Tearing it down, getting parts together to put on ebay. I sold the engine, trans, wheels and a bunch of other parts to a guy in Portugal - shipping this whole pallet of parts there cost him a small fortune but as you can imagine, 34 Chev parts are non-existent there....
This car had the light duty front axle which nobody makes a disc kit for plus those wire wheels had a small bolt pattern like 60's Mopars.

I have said it before and will say it again. The finest work I have seen is from North of the boarder.
I love the Canadian corral at the Goodguys here. As everyone can see you guys know how to do it right.
Thanks for posting the build.

Thanks Cdog! Funny thing, I've thought the same thing about the builders in the "unwet" side of Washington too. One day I gotta make it to Spokane for the big show.

Don't know if a MII front end is 'traditional' but then the 74 Pinto it came from is 40 yrs old now so I guess it almost qualifies as 'vintage' parts ;). Anyhow, it was cheap and easy to put in, I later boxed the rest of the frame rails right up to the rearend and added a new K member to the center of the frame.

A bit of a forward leap, 'glas fenders and running boards and rear pan mounted. I moulded the stock tail lights into the rear pan and filled and shaved the bumper holes. Busy scraping the paint off, found it was the best method - sanding was too slow and I didn't want to use chemical strippers.

All the paint scraped off the body, frame is done and painted, underfloor master/booster in, S10 rearend mounted, ready for finish body work. Some time in its past there had been some sandblasting done - problem was that they hadn't masked the windows so all the glass was pitted :( - oh well, I wanted to put in tinted glass anyway....

Sure glad you posted this build, zz. What the heck kind of scraper did you use to remove the paint?

I use a furniture scraper I got from the hardware store - it has a replaceable carbon steel blade about 2" wide. It was a brutal job and I still had to go over it with a DA sander and wire wheel in places plus more hand sanding. In hind sight it would have been far easier to have it media blasted but it kept me busy for a while....

Seems I didn't take any pics of the nasty bondo work and seemingly endless rounds of priming and sanding so it takes another leap forward to having the body painted. Did this one with the doors on as I didn't want to disturb all those old wood screws, etc. holding the hinges on.... if it aint broke, don't fix it

Engine painted and mounted. A 305 and 700R4 that I got from a cheap 80's Camaro that I picked up - totally stock, I just put in all new gaskets, freshened up the Rochester 4bbl., painted it and put on some chrome parts - presto, a dead nuts reliable powerplant. Took the tranny to my buddy for a budget rebuild and mild upgrade. Filled about 50 holes in the firewall before I painted it - it's amazing how many holes people will drill in it over the course of 80 years..... New glass all in, went with green tinted in front and smoke for the rear ones.
