I decided to tear this thing down a little further than I originally intended; there was some hidden cancer I didn’t want to ignore. Also made a killer score on a low mileage slant six from a 1 ton National Guard truck. I pulled the motor apart that was in the van and it was going to need some serious machine work and a full rebuild. This one will just need some new gaskets and seals so that will save some bucks.

Got the first couple of spots fixed. These window vans had a step under the side doors the world retract under the body when the doors were closed. They also had a battery box behind the drivers seat. Both spots were bad so I decided to ditch the retractable step and build a battery box under the floor in that spot and patch the other spot.

This is one of those days where you cut out a big section of rust, step back, and say ,”What possessed me to buy this piece of s—t???” Felt better about it by the end of the day; just got to take one little section at a time and not think about how much is left.

Thanks! The plan of “fix it as I drive it” probably isn’t going to work after all. Might as well just bite the bullet and make my way all the way around it and get it done.

Changed the drivers side wheel arch today; glad they make replacements for these.

Did some sanding over the weekend; thankfully the metal is fairly decent under all those layers of old paint. I really didn't want to go this far but........

I saw the title and wanted to see what it looked like.
It's hard to believe that mine and yours were are the same year dodges

Great looking truck; that beast should go just about anywhere.

Got another piece made for the floor. Also took some POR-15 and a couple of cans of Eastwood Inner Frame rust encapsulator and treated every nook and cranny in the nose, A pillars, and under the dash.

Side 2 is on. Next I’m going to work on the back corners and the tail pan which is the worst rusted area. Luckily one of the top Mopar salvage yards in the country is about 40 minutes from me and he’s got about 10 of these vans. I went out last weekend and got four rust free doors and some solid patch sections for a pretty decent price.
