First off, thanks to offroadrolls, here's the post where he done the clinic on the process.

I'm going to repair the temp gauge on my 37 GMC pickup.
Oh yea, my son removed the dash, took the surface rust off and painted it for me. The color is Hot Rod Flats Old Gold [dr

Here's where I started.
I verified the donor gauges accuracy at room temp then, at 185* with a digital food thermometer.

Love that color! Gonna paint my coupe that color on the bottom & candy apple red with big metal flake on top!

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks on the color. Took me awhile to decide to use it too.
Love it now.
OK, now for the gauge repair :D

Unsoldered the tube from the gauge and this happened. Look how far the tubing was pushed into the back of the gauge then soldered.

And the expansion tube fell off too :(

Don't despair, that was the practice gauge
Here's the process:
This is where the PO decided to cut the capillary tube and it had something in it so, I ran a small drill bit in it to clear it

This is where I pushed the coupler tube on it to have a ledge in the solder

This is the coupler tube before soldering

This is the donor tube

This is the coupler tube where I tinned both ends before soldering

I used a Weller electric soldering gun and soldered it together

Here's a little chemistry
Ether is what's in the bulb and does not boil until 95* F.
All I done was put the sensing bulb in a glass of water that was 60 * F just to keep the temp stable and done as offroad and cut the line with scissors, didn't loose the ether.
