Default VW rearend question.

I have a vw bus rearend under a 69 beetle. The rear end has gear reduction that raises the rear up about 4 inches. Has anyone ever flipped that gear reduction over to have the opposite lowering effect?

Looked at that site for a minute or two and seen way too many bad words. This is my 13 year old sons Ba-ha and we're probably gonna turn it into a rat. I thought I had seen lots of VW's on here and someone might know.

The 69 has independent axles. This swap would probably be easier in a pre-68 bug with the solid axle assemblies. We used to swap the stock 4:11 rear assemblies for the 4:56 gear and 4" higher clearance for off road. Never known anyone to flip one, but you would also need to flip the ring gear or you will have 4 speeds in reverse...
