Default What's the Law

on Tail Lights.
I'm building a custom flatbed for my 97 F350 and as it works out the all in one tail-brake turn signal lights will only be about 40 inches apart center to center. So I'm wondering if there are any legal specifications for the placement of tail lights? The flat bed is 81" wide.

I'm not sure on all vehicles but on big comercial trucks like dump trucks, the tail lights can be mounted inside the frame. there are usualy 3 marker lights above them and 1 at each corner of the body.

There is no minimum distance apart for lights in Missouri just a max on height and that is not enforced either.

A lot of semi tractor tail lights are probably no more than 2' apart.

Thanks Doc.
There's a lot of info on clearance lights there too so I'll also need to keep those in mind. All it say's about brake lights is you need 2 of them. Good news is it does not say anything about having to have a cyclops brake light. But that might be a Federal Rap lol.
When you get to tail lights it says;
"shall be equipped with at least two tail lamps mounted on the rear,
on the same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable"
I could probably get them wider by putting them on the outer sections of the rear of the bed but they'd look goofy pointing at an angle. Maybe the angle they'd be pointing would be my argument against "practicable"

Here's a picture. The receiver is not for a trailer hitch.
