I removed the front suspension today so that I could get access to the front portions of the truck. I needed to do a lot of welding, grinding and smoothing without damaging the chrome and stainless.

Also added a small bit of sheet metal to finish off the front of the cab.

While I have the brake system open, I need to remove the factory drum brake residual valves from the Wilwood brake master cylinder. I had already installed 2 lb disc brake residual valves in line for the four wheel disc brakes.

The suspension is back on and the brakes are bled.

Also made an addtional support for the exhaust system

And wrapped the exhaust more completely, near the engine mounts.

Changed the oil in the rear axle
Repacked the wheel bearing grease up front
Repaired a few pin holes in the sheet metal under the windshields
Added a scoop on the underside to direct additional air to the engine
Installed several rubber coated clamps on the brake lines and shifter cable

I have never been completely happy with the headlights on the truck and decided to try out a different set. They are Model A reproductions and will be mounted near the wheels and will turn with the steering. They will also be positioned near the trucks original location when pointed straight ahead. Made the mounting brackets today.

Started with a paper template.

Then cut the brackets out of a piece of scrap

Painted the brackets and will install with the headlights tomorrow.

I love how the truck turned out. Looks like freak but a well balanced one :cool::cool: [cl

Thanks!

I mounted the headlights today but am not happy with the way they look. Too far apart and too conservative.

Decided to play around with the original headlights again

Also experimented with some motorcycle lights

Possibly recessed into the nose at an angle following the body line

Any suggestions?

The headlights create the "face" the front of the car has. Being careful on placement, like you are doing, is important.

This is what I went with along with a single motorcycle light on each spindle (not in photos). I installed an amber led in the lower sockets of the vw buckets also. These lights along with the lights in the bull horns will serve as running lights as well as blinkers. As an added benefit, the headlights actually meet the minimum height requirement in my state.
