'56 F100 Diff....

need some more info on these diffs. please .....

while at a buddys place picking up a mini roof for my coupe ,, I asked him if he knew of any narrow diffs for sale...

he says yip look at this,, since the tape measure was a decent walk away I didn't measure it.

who could tell me more about these diffs. thinking its low low price (f.o.c)
-- any difference between 6 or 8 cylinder ?
-- like how wide is one from the inside of backing plate to backing plate
-- could I use later falcon / mustang drums etc
-- what axles could be used? - original could be an option -- if not ??

-- possible gear ratios for these ?

looking at attaching a 318 to the sharp end

There are much better rears out there than a 53 pickup. It will probably be a Dana 44, not a bad rear, but not sure if anything modern would fit it as in gears, brakes, axles, etc. I'd look for a 8", 9", or a 8.8" Ford rear. Much better parts availability.

The rear is a Dana 44 and should have a gear ratio of 3.92. I been awhile since I had one apart but if memory serves me right I think the axle is a 10 or 11 spline. the bolt pattern is 5 on 5 1/2.
