I have 1997 PSD F350 with a E40OD trans that I don't drive too much. Today I drove it and it felt kind of strange. At highway speeds of about 60 - 65 in OD you could feel the converter lock up when you stepped on the throttle but then the second you took your foot off the throttle the converter unlocks. One thing that's different from the last I drove it @ 65 is I recently put 35" tires on it. It did have 33's.
I guess my question is more about how these trannys are supposed to operate. Is the converter only suppose to lock up under load? Or is it supposed to stay locked up while cruising at higher speeds? [S

I think it's supposed to stay locked up as long as it's under power, then disengage when you let off. At least that's the way the ones I've got feel, 99 F150 and 00 Expy. When it unlocks, it's just like going into neutral, no engine braking at all.
