Haven’t posted in a while but I have been busy. Got all the brakes ran, the steering box installed, and today I worked on the parking brake. I need to get a few rod ends so I can finish the parking brake assembly and start working on a shifter. Seeing as I am using a fordomatic transmission and nobody seems to make a shifter for it, I will have to make my own. Anyhow, progress pictures.

Moved the body back over the frame this afternoon. Tomorrow I will start tackling the framework for the interior. I’ve already determined where the seats need to mount and how I am going to do the space behind the seats. Stay tuned for what happens next.

Work on the sub floor has begun. Had to raise it up quite a bit more than initially planned to clear the hairpins in the rear. 3” above the frame in the front, 4” above in the back. Decided to make a sort of tray on the back instead of having the walls come straight down. This will give me room to mount the fuel tank and possibly put speakers in it. Next on the to do list is to start forming the trans tunnel.

Start to the tunnel began yesterday. Today I hope to get motor mounts built and maybe start skinning the tunnel. I need to figure out how the dash comes apart so I can remove it so I can actually see what I’m doing. So in order of tasks: body mounts, tunnel skin, rear shelf, and floor boards. I’m hoping one sheet of 18ga will be enough.

That looks like a pretty big tunnel. Are you going to have enough room for seats?

Yeah, she’s gonna be a little tight but I plan on bomber seats so I’ll be able to make do.

Today, got the forward bit under the cowl skinned. I have it just screwed in for now but once I get the tunnel and floors built, I’ll be able to weld it all in. Also got the basis for the tunnel cut out and clamped into place. Tomorrow, I will trim it up just a little bit as the front doesn’t quite touch the hoops I made. Then I will tack it into place. Once that’s all done I will start on the forward most pieces around the transmission. Looking at all the sheet I need, I think I will be needing two more sheets of 18ga which I’ll get on Thursday.

Tunnel is pretty well finished. Just gotta finish up welding everything together. Tomorrow I’ll move onto the forward floorboards and kick panels.

So today I got the tunnel and transitions welded together, the firewall portion of the floor put in, and the kick panels done. I didn’t bead the kick panels on this one because I plan on doing something a little different on this car. Tomorrow I plan on going down to great falls to pick up more sheet metal. I really wish the place up here would carry 18ga but oh well, they’d probably rip me off anyway. Once I get back, it is a 2hr drive one way, I’ll try to get the rear body mounts installed so I can start skinning the back section and floors on Friday. That’s it for now so here are a few progress pics.

Thursday I got more sheet metal as planned but woke up sick as a dog Friday. Didn’t get anything accomplished Friday or Saturday but finally felt a little better today so out to the shop I went. That is until I ran out of steam. Got the kick up panel in the door opening welded in and the drivers side floor pan built. Tomorrow I’ll hit the rear quarter panel and move onto the passengers side floor pan. Then I’ll move onto the section behind the seat. The panel above the tank will be made removable as to be able to get to the fuel sender.

Passenger floor board is now built but ran out of steam to weld her in. Tomorrow I will do that. You will notice that there is a cutout in the forward floor area, that is where my fuse block will be mounted. Need to trim up the flange area and then I can finish tig welding it in so that it is completely sealed. If I have time tomorrow I will get at least one rear quarter in place.
