That's good info, but I think it's a little bit funny. I don't think the person that did the illustrations understood the concept of "heat soaking", or 1000°.
It shows the glass in what appears to be some sort of cake pan, in a liquid that appears to be water. I wonder how long a cake pan full of water lasts at 1000°!

I wonder if a plasma cutter will do it all in one shot?
I actually heard of a guy cutting glass with a plasma. Wrapped the glass in aluminum foil for the electrical current then cut. Wasn't tempered. Wasn't pretty.
I think there might have been a video on it somewhere.
