I've been going back and forth on whether to ditch the running boards and trim the fenders, hopefully giving it a less heavy appearance - today I did like the Pink Floyd song lyric - 'raise the blade and make the change'....:D
Of course now I'll need to round the front corners of the rear fenders and make a skinny rocker panel cover - but I think it'll give it a cleaner look...

The way you recontoured the front fender looks very good. Like you said, just needs a rocker cover. The leading edge of the rear fender could be radiused up into the wheel opening. Maybe not as much as on Big John's Willys. You know better what will fit the style you are after.

I would like to find a way to put your builds in a permanent file on a memory stick for future reference. Any computer gurus know how? or if it is even possible?

I dunno Bob, just posting this stuff is about at the limit of my computer skills...
What's more fun than modifying one fender?? Doing the other one and trying to make them look the same... It fought me for a bit but I think I won the battle.....[;)

Scrounged up a couple more pieces of 3/4" tubing and formed them to fit the new curved front corners on the rear fenders.

Looks good from here.
One nice thing about the modified fenders being on opposite sides of the car, you can't see both at the same time. ;)

Working on the rocker covers today, bent from 18ga. sheet on 3 sides then welded on one edge. The act of welding it put just the right curve in it to match the rocker, purely lucky coincidence. Capped on the ends and nuts welded to the back, got one finished.

A small distraction from the Packard build, my Hennway developed tranny issues, going from 1st right to 3rd (Turbo 400). Called by tranny wizard friend for a diagnosis, sounded like an intermediate clutch prob. Took it out and brought it to him, turns out the lugs in the case that hold a big snap ring were blowing out, letting things almost going into destruct mode. Swapped to another T400 case, everything else inside was in great shape - thanks buddy!

I've always felt the headlights sit up too high on these cars, so I got busy today and carved out a new set of pedestals from 1/8" plate and 18ga sheet, 3 1/2" lower. That's more like it....
