wow I think I actually posted some pics ! I am building what will be titled as a 42 ford pickup . I started with a s10 front clip and rear axle . I am building the rest of the frame out of 2x4x1/8" tubing.I will be using a 39 ford standard front sheetmetal . I have seen a couple of trucks done this way on the forums and decided it was a look that I liked and that I would try it.

this is the cap and cab I am starting out with . This is actually the second cab . I found this one on craigslist in Arkansas . My first cab was given to me and it was what started this project with , but after a few months of looking for and chasing parts I decided on this cab. $400 dollars and a trip to Arkansas and I had this cab . The cap came off of another craigslist find. I got a whole car , although not much was left of it . A trip to Tennessee and another $400 . The plan was starting to come together.

A few more ideas and inspiration from the internet and I've decided to build a ladder bar rear suspension . I should mention that I raced circle track dirt for about 20 years . I built my own cars with tools in one hand and a rule book in the other . It feels really good to build something without any rules ! I am going use a 350 chevy with a borg warner t10 for a drivetrain . The rear end will be a 7.5 10 bolt out of an s10 3.73 with a limited slip diff. The dog is my in house inspector.

I like where you're going with this Rapid 49......
you may have to use a vega steering box to get radiator
clearance, but by the looks of things, looks like you've done
you're research.....[cl[cl[cl

Looking good! I like the front sheetmetal. The dog wants it safe for when he rides with you.

Panhard bar and rear coilovers installed. The fuel cell is probably gonna go here . Its one I had laying around so Im gonna try to use it.

I'm liking it! Not many people would use the 39 Standard nose, most would go with the Deluxe. The 39 front will make a great, different looking truck from everybody else! [cl

I am at a compromise between motor setback , chassis balance / weight percentage and legroom in the cab. (too many years building racecars I guess. Old habits die hard.) I really want this truck to be fun to drive and handle well. The front of the cab where the cab mounts were was totally rusted and the fenderwell headers I decided to use brought me to cut off the front of the cab . I relocated and fabbed up new cab mounts further back into the firewall. As you can probably see the firewall is going to be set back about six inches.
I am about four months into this build so I am starting this thread kind of late. This is the first time I have done a build thread so bear with me please. I will add a few pics each day until I get caught up to current time.

With the cab mounted to the frame securely and well braced it is time to start cutting. Did I mention that I want this truck low. It is going to be as low as possible without bagging . It must also be able to be driven on the street, a lot and hard. I know Im asking a lot. The s10 front clip has dropped spindles and longer lower ball joints . With a spring adjustment (coilovers on the front) I will have 3 o 4 inches of drop while still being able to correct the caster, camber and bumpsteer. The frame is zeeed 4 more inches and will probably have about 4 inches ground clearance.

You can set the motor back as far as you like. Just remember, the seat isn't going any farther back. It won't be any fun if you aren't comfortable driving it.
