I figured I should probably go ahead and put the build of my 64 Chevy C-10 Step-side truck from a couple years ago, since it's still moving forward... so here goes....

I came across an ad on CL about a 64 step-side truck down in Niota... Worked a deal on trading a NIssan 300Z for the truck and some boot, I had been playing around with imports, but decided I was going back to Chevy's full-time. So I even worked out things and had the truck delivered to my house :D...

These Photos are about 2 months after I got the truck, all that has changed is the front bumper and grill have been touched up with rattle can white.

Cool lookin' truck. Was it in running and driving condition when you got it? Whats your plan?

-Chris

It was running (pouring gas in carb)
Driving if you had a two liter feeding it fuel and then you could drive, but no brakes, so you couldn't stop.... I actually drive it on and off the trailer

More to come

Detail about my find

Okay....

1964- C-10 Stepside

327 Motor (Previous Owner said he heard it was from a 69 camaro) turned out that it is a 350 HP from a 69 corvette :D (the old double hump head type)

A turbo 400 Transmission with a camaro shiftier held in with two self tapping screws

Step-side lot's of patina

Lowered with heated springs from what I could tell...

THE PLAN

An easy driver that, check the motor out and make sure it's good, probably drop a 700R-4 Transmission in it (fuel mileage) fix holes in floor and drive the wheels off of it!

I wish I had that hood color pattern on my truck! Perfect patina match!

My favorite era of Chevy truck. Nice find.

now you sound like me--- getting a bunch of projects going all at once[ddd

good looking truck, the 7OOR4 is a good choice & make double sure the T V cable is adjusted correctly or the trans will have a very short life span.

are you planning on using the external or internal kit for the trans in the truck?

l have one of each and they both work fine, the external just takes a little bit of finessing to get right and internal one is so easy, just plug and play. be sure to get a good cooler, my guy l have build my 7OO's said that is essential.

make sure to get the right torque converter for the lock up into 0D.

Later

You're absolutely right, Skull. Also, TCI makes a constant pressure valve body for the 700r4 that solves that issue. Then the cable is only used for shift points and does not damage the trans if it's out of adjustment. I've got one in my 48.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I should have clearly stated before that this is a look back in the past build on the truck LOL... my bad, trying to get caught up to where I am now on it... sorry for dragging me feet....

The 700-R4's overdrive is hooked up with a switch in the dash... I did order the TCI kit, but have been a little leary about putting it in... only because I like driving the truck so much LOL. :D

More Pre Show Photos

Here are some more shots before I got too far into this 'ol truck...

Patina??? What is that???

So, since I did this truck a couple years ago, before finding RRR or that you could make a rat rod out of a 60's era truck I did the 'unthinkable' as some guys say.... I covered the patina with flat black:eek:.... I was honestly thinking I should cover this rust, so I can save this truck... so I broke out the Trusty Rusto and covered it up... then it sat for about a year....

Moving on....

So I did some investigation on a few things....

The 327, now decided it didn't want to run (I blame my self for letting it sit too long)

The and the Q-Jet started leaking gas....

So I look into the interior, the Buick regal seats were definitely gone and they were burgundy... pulled up the black laid in carpet and SURPRISE!!!!

The GOOD ... the BAD ... and the UGLY

yep

yea, that kind of rust in the floors is a typical thing in older trucks. nice thing is if you are not a restorer there is bunch of material available to fix it.

l have used roofs & floor pans from of cars l was scraping, sheet metal and from a horse trailer the divider wall from the inside.

have fun[;)

Later

wow... that's lame..

Sorry guys, totally let this thread fall on it's face... let me keep going...

After finding the rusted through floor and rockers I knew I was going to have a bit of metal work to do and at the time my welding skills and cutting and fitting skills weren't he best, but the best way to learn is to dive in, right???[S

Anyway.... I also found out the gas tank had a big crack... the fuel lines were full of crud and the brakes.... hahahah... what brakes???

So... I elected to put in a new gas tank (a 50's car poly), new fuel lines, new brake lines, 5 lug conversion with disc brakes and a newer rear end (80's) I found a set of 5 lug 20's for $200 bucks... so those came in handy with rolling the new 5 lug rear around... then I threw a couple 6 lug spares on the front to get the truck rolled into the garage for the 5 lug disc brake swap up front!
