So I'm running a 454 with a Big Cam therefore low vacuum.
Here is the deal, I might go with a non-power steering set up, but want to capture the vacuum for the brakes. Not sure how to set up the system bypassing the power steering component?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

So I'm a little confused by your question.

Power steering set ups typically run off a hydraulic system and have nothing to do with vacuum.

I would solve the vacuum problem with a simple electric vacuum pump.

Yes that's good advice, but I believe they are quite noisy?

Just thought maybe the hydro-boost could be rigged some how?

I put a Hydro-boost unit on my Chevelle's LS3.. went from very lame brakes to super brakes. They run off your power steering unit & I swear by them. I tried using a elec vacuum pump & it was noisy & didn't cut it... the HB solved all my problems!

keep the p/s pump for hydroboost only, it does not require the steering gear to operate.

What he said!

My dad had a 70s Chevy 1 ton with hydro boost for the brakes but no power steering. We later added power steering to it.

Would love to but I,m not going near the cemetery in the near future. Beside I can't hear the answers to my questions when I go there. The dirt muffles his reply.[ddd

Sorry brother, thanks for information on the hydro-boost.
It appears it will work even without the steering side of it.
