Hello my fellow rat rodders.....

I had a 1950 Chevy 2 Door sedan follow me home back in March after finding it on craigslist.... It looks like I got myself into a bit of a mess with the frame... someone sub framed it with an S-10.... but stacked the frame:eek: so it would have a rake.... instead of adjusting the suspension.... :mad:

Anyways.... I cut the frame apart, but working on it in a yard hasn't been the easiest.... I'm thinking I may swap to a caprice Chassis at this point.... what do you guys think? the S-10 frame was sleeved so the old sleeve is still stuck in the old frame, should I get a smaller sleeve and insert in there, or try and cut further back into the existing frame? I'm somewhat lost at this point, I wasn't expecting such a mess.... hahahahhahaaa.... All the metal work looked to be done with a torch hahaha it looks like a robot chewed on every cut.....

Power Plant.....

I'm am leaning toward running a TPI motor in this Chevy so I can have some good power and good fuel mileage, so if the wife and I want to go to a car show near or far we can, also, I'd like for her to have something simplistic to cruise in.

I also have been work on the 327 that I pulled out of my 64 C-10 truck.... a 1969 327 from a Corvette.... at least that's what the numbers pulled up as... the motor looks to have a 350 crank and pistons so I'm not sure what all has been done, I drove it for about a year and it had good power with a 600 Carter carb on it. I only pulled the motor because there was a broken bolt in the front exhaust hole and the valve seals needed to be replaced. So I pull it take the head to a machine shop and the guy breaks 3 bits trying to drill out the bolt.... so I find another set of heads... those are in the picture below, also decided to try some roller tip rockers.... so we will see what happens!

A guy I know has a 49 Pontiac sedan delivery. He used a Parisienne frame (same as Caprice) from the front doors back, and a Cutlass (same as Malibu, etc.) Front clip. The full size front end was just too wide.

You might be able to do full Malibu or Cutlass.
 
What ever you decide get some thing else, other wise you just chasing someone else screw ups. I'm sad you painted it :( That is going to make a nice cruiser. [cl

Don't worry it hasn't been painted, just threw a light coat or rusto over it, wanted to slow down it's ageing

Very cool car, I think the above statement was saying... "clear coating the patina would of been better than the flat black". Either way, it's going to make a super cool cruiser.:D

My dream bumper would be the first option, only throw away the bumperettes and shorten up the bumper brackets 4 to 6 inches, so the bumper is flush with the whole front of the car. I'm so serious about this that I'm going to try it on a '50 Ford.
Your bumper is going to be too low to actually save you in a head on collision anyhow, so you might as well have it cool looking. I think a bumper saves the car in an accident about .001% of the time, and of that very small group of victims, not one of them loves his car like a hotrod builder would, so better driving would have erased even those few accidents.
There's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

I welcome varied answers[cl sometimes one can tip you off to something you never would have thought of. I like the idea you have and I thought about that, because I don't like that 4-5" deep lip that is between the bumper and the grill, so snugging it up would definitely help! Too bad this one didn't come with bumpers:(....

What if you re-weld the S10 frame back on in the position that the original 1950 stuff was put in place?...That way the front end comes back up to where is belongs and you still have a fairly modern front end under it?

As kid we used to watch guys cut the front fenders up a little, trim the back ones up too...put a roll cage in it, big truck hub on the right front....maybe a set of 4.10 gears in the rear end and go racing at the local oval track....they looked so cool from the stands, but you get up close to them and they were not much to look at...awesome site seeing them sliding around on the dirt track...I think they were called "modified-sportsmans"...

Yours looks like you gotta good start on it for sure...

Bumper in progress

Made my way back down to the boneyard where the old '54 buick sat, and scored that bumper, it definately has some rust issues, but it 'cleaned up' nicely..... Are these old bumpers solid stainless? I didn't see any chrome plating on this one, just wondering if you guys knew anything about them...[S
