Torchie, you have great tenacity. I get exhausted just following the thread.

I am getting exhausted doing it bob.:eek:
After we went and got the engine on Saturday morning I helped my friend put a new front door on a very cobbled up house. Took about 4 hours. Should have been a 1-1/2 ??? hour job. Then on Sunday drove 4 hours round trip to visit with my youngest daughter so I am feeling kind of worn out today.:)

How much spring back, if any, do you anticipate?

The plan is for NO spring back OI. That's one of the reason that builders are laminating more now.
With steam bending there is always spring back and you have to allow for that, which is an imprecise science at best.
Many boat builders try to steam bend in place so that they can screw/bolt the piece in while it is still pliable and hold it's shape.
I do have concerns about this piece given the thickness of the layers that I used. ( That's why I steam bent them first). The standard practice is to use more, thinner layers. Reducing the tension on the planks.
As of this morning it appears to be fully cured but I'm going to leave it in the form for a few more days.
As soon as I release the clamps I will know if it worked or not. LOL

It is the best way and will work fine. Where I work when I first started there the boss and another fellow were building a roof over the fuel pumps and were useing two 12" microlams and nailed them together on the ground. I told them to get them straight and flat first. They said I didn't know what I was talking about. Needless to say when they where done they had a 1- 1/2 foot bow in them that you couldn't get out of them. They are still bowed 18 years later.
 
Started on the final assembly of the new bottom frames today.
All parts bedded with 3M 5200 and then screwed together with new silicone bronze screws.
The 5200 is slippery as snot and as sticky as baby poop on a bed sheet, but once it cures these parts aren't coming apart.
By the time the bottom is totaly done I will have used around 65 tubes of this stuff. At $25.00 a tube..... :eek:
Tomorrow the laminated piece gets released from prison.[ddd

I have seen that . I will need to use the mahogany colored for the bottom planks which they charge more for. I used the white for the ribs as they are getting painted. I don't really like to deal with amazon. As a former small business owner I find it hard to give the richest man in the world any of my money.[ddd But that's just me....
I have a local source for it that will give me a break on the price.:D As well as getting it fresh as it does have a shelf life.

Pulled the clamps this morning.
A little bit of spring back( about a 1/16 on each end) but still will work.:)
Lots of clean up and work yet to do on this piece but it's a start.
Off to the Drs now. More later......

No. I haven't jilted the boat.....

After a Great Mothersday breakfast with my wife and her Mom I'm back at the boat.
I finished bedding the last 3 new bottom frames. Tomorrow all the new wood will get a double coat of Smiths CPES. Helps to keep out moisture but still allows the wood to breathe.
Now to sit on the front porch and enjoy the sunshine.....

Double coated all the new frame work with Smiths CPES.
I will give it 4 days for a full cure then a single coat of bilge paint.
Last pic shows the obvious difference between the coated and uncoated frame.

After giving the CPES 4 days to fully cure I gave the new frames a thinned out coat of bilge paint today.
Once the entire hull is re planked I will be spraying the entire inside of the hull with bilge paint.

Just in case you thought that I have stopped working on the boat

Spent Sunday on the boat.
Ripped some 16' planks to size to use for laminating the chines.
I also started to work on the lower transom bow. I ran it through the saw to clean up the bottom edge.
I bolted in the new frames. Laid the keel back in place and clamped one of the soon to be chine planks in place just to see how it looks.
Almost looks like a boat again.:D
