So a client of mine has been eyeballing a Mercury Cougar Eliminator for the last month or so. One owner car 60 some-odd thousand original miles and a really solid body. Finally pulled the trigger and we went and Drug it out from its 30 + year resting spot. The car is rust free 351 automatic car . Will be super cool if it had a big block and a 4-speed but no such luck . Along with that we drugged out a 1974 Mercury Colony Park. Factory 4 Barrel Ford 460, with a C6 and a 9 rear axle. 6000 lb of four-door Steel!

The wagon is also a one-owner car, really good interior. Ran and drove to the spot where it was sitting in 96. So it shouldn't be too hard to get running. I will order all the stuff to do a tune-up, then we will put shocks and Lee wheels and tires on it, along with slightly lower it. Since the vinyl on the one side is really bad I am thinking about redoing it in a black and grey wood grain instead of brown, it will match the black and chrome wheels that are going to go on it. But I'm not 100% sure on that. The car is just going to be a flip most likely so I don't want to dump a bunch of useless money into it.

The Mercury Cougar we will be getting running as a starting point. Most likely the interior the engine and transmission will all get gone through along with the suspension, but we will most likely just buff the paint out and leave it as a Survivor style car

The Titanic was given to me as thanks for helping them dig this Eliminator out and get it delivered to its new home

DIG the long roof!! hose it down, Armorall the plastic interior, and drive the S____t out of it.

Too bad somebody ruined the "wood" vinyl sides with car wax, should have used "Mop-n-Glow" vinyl floor wax instead, it would still look like brand new.

Nice looking Cougar. 2nd generation. The one I haven't had. Had a 68, and still have my 71 GT in dry storage. Need to get it or sell it. Been stored for over 20 years. That should have the 351-4V Cleveland, C6, 9-inch. I guarantee it is no slouch. If it still has the stock intake, a new Performer intake and carb will perk up the bottom end a lot. These engines have no issues with top end.

great find! I dig the longroof but the cougar looks way cool.
Funny thing, that color is so close to the color I chose for my 70 cuda. It was lemon twist yellow from factory but that was a tad yellow for me so I picked a different shade.... half the mopar guru community wanted to shoot me back then... :D

(my old car not my pic... new owner new country new licenseplate)

Well the wagon lives! Well sorta, it turns over and has intermittent spark. But I have all new ignition parts, along with plugs and wires. I cleaned the engine bay with a vacuum, simple green and a hose. Some lights work some of the time. There has been moisture in the car and some of the fuses are building corrosion. It might be a wiring nightmare but we will get it

That's cool, but way too fancy for my taste lol. I'm thinking more like cleaning up the white clear coating it. Been redoing the wood grain in the black and grey, it will then Match the black and chrome wheels and putting on it

I saw the twin to that Cougar today, but it was a convertible! Just got a quick look, so it probably wasn't an Eliminator, but it had the same wing and was the same color. Always wanted a Cougar, 67-72, after that, they got ugly.

I was expecting you to say the wagon was going to be the donar for the Cougar

Heck no, the Clark Griswold family wagon lives!
I drove it tonight. It runs good actually. The ignition is sticky and only works in a certain spot. So I need to get that fixed and it's on to customizing!:D

Both cool finds!! Too bad the Eliminator has the mundane power train. Very rare I'm sure but I remember a magazine artice when they were new and they had one with a 427.
The big wagon is a hoot. I'd set that up with some bags and make it my tow vehicle, maybe ad a gear vendors direct/under since it probably has gears in the 3.00 range.

Yeah, not a highly sought after car with that combo. But I think its was a decent score
