Thanks gang.!
More junk in the trunk. DS this time.
[;) [;) [;)
Also got a line on this engine. 318 with a 904 trans out of a driving 69 Satellite.
It may have a gasket issue though as it's got coolant in the oil.
I may take a chance on it given he wants $250.:cool:
Thoughts.....

Thanks all.
Didn't get the whole car Mac. Haven't even gotten the 318 yet.:)
Those valve covers are selling on ebay for about what he's asking for the entire Package.
He messaged me earlier asking if I could hold off till mid week to come over as he's in the middle of the engine swap.
The story is that he drove the car all summer. Has a video of the engine running. Said it ran good and has a mild cam in it. Before he put it away for the winter he did a total fluid change. That was in November.
After the holidays he went to start on the engine swap and that's when he saw the coolant in the oil.
By the looks of the exterior of the engine the story sounds feasible enough.
I know that the 383 big blocks were prone to head gasket failures.
If I'm able to get it I will start with a top down inspection. My main concern would be if it was run for any length of time with the coolant in the oil.Bearings scored, etc... He says that it wasn't.
I agree with you on the trans too. Bama.
Regardless of what frame I use I would have to do a V-8 swap. And most likely a engine rebuild as well.
Keep your respective fingers crossed on this one. I'd still like it to be as much MOPAR as possible.

those are nice engines. Underrated for sure. check if it really is a pre-72 engine.
I would sell that carb and get a factory bullit proof tiny Carter...

He already ran the numbers Dutch. The block has a production date of 73. So it’s been swapped out at some time. Don’t know about the heads. Right on the edge of the smog era engines. My brother was a mopar guy( 69 Barracuda RS) as were most of his buddies and they built some pretty hellaish engines using this engine in the later parts of the 70’s.
I’m not looking for a bruiser anyway. Just a cruiser.😎

You can make more power and still be reliable. just don't go over board.

By 73 they were starting to lower the compression ratings but even in Stone stock form with a 2 barrel it would put out 230?? HP which is more then double what the original flat head 6 Put out.
If it does have a mild cam with that 4 barrel on it it should be perked up s bit.
Plus he ran it with headers as well .
All has yet to be revealed.

I hope it is a good one and you get it. A recent episode of Uncle Tony's Garage on You Tube talked about building a 318.

Hope so too, Bob.
I’ll have to check it out.
One of my Aunts that worked her entire life for Dodge used to drive Coronets. 2 door hard tops. She would buy a new one about every 4 years. She had a 69 with a 318 in it. Quick car and a real tire smoker.😜 She sold it to her paper boy( remember those) before my brother or I could get our hands on it.
Good times....
