51 chevy straight axle install

i did this job for someone this past summer. its a speedway straight axle kit. it turned out ok in the end but the kit had some problems.

it sits up pretty high in the front. the customer said hes going to raise the rear some.

a shot from the rear. this car has a nasty small block in it that sounds great through those duals.

When the back comes up a little that thing will look pretty good. What problems with the kit did you have?

I agree with the what Bonehead said about the stance, and I'd also like toknow what issues you had with the kit. Cool car by the way.

Here is my '49 with the speedway front axle...

And I put the rear end ('64 nova) under the stock '49 leaf springs.

i believe it has something to do with improved weight distribution at launch. it helps to keep the rear tires down.

The look started in drag racing. NHRA changed some rules at one point and the way the guys beat the rules was to go up. The Gasser look was born. Later the rules were changed again, and they came back down. But for several years "Tall" was in. I think the altered wheelbase cars were all about weight distribution, though NHRA had some requirments for wheelbase itself. At least this always what I understood, some of the gasser guys jump in if I am off here.
