Fought with the clutch slave cylinder today, but finally got it in. The cylinder is off a jeep cj5. It fit nicely next to the oil filter on the chevy V8 but the filter must be removed to get the bolts in. Bolted it up only to find that the filter was making contact with the bolt heads and would not screw on. Solved the problem with these button head bolts.

Prior to installing the hydraulic line to the clutch, I sleeved it with some heat shield.

I am re-purposed the back bone from the original vw pan. The section was originally fully enclosed but I have cut out the bottom panel and am using it as a driveshaft tunnel.

Driveshaft is installed. Fit very well.

Also got a set of headers for a very good price that I had ordered a while back. They do give me more clearance around the master cylinder, so no insulating wrap needed, but I really like the look of the roadster headers

Like. [cl

Saw a rolling bug shell on CL today for $500. I was tempted.

Instead, I actually went out and worked on my 39.

Pulled the bug body off today to clean up a few things

Ran a tap thru all the body mount threads

Applied a thick bead of silicone and bolted down the body.

Next, re-install the doors to make sure the the body is square prior to building a roll cage for it.

Doing the rust repairs on the doors before bolting them back on. The passenger side was not too bad, but the drivers will need new metal at the bottom. I used something called Strong Steel Stik from LPS to patch the better door as well as some pin holes around the side rear windows. I decided to try the product due to the fact the the previous owner had filled every opening in the sheet metal with expanding spray foam. This was the main reason for getting the body sand blasted, but unfortunately, some of the foam remains. So in these areas, to avoid starting a fire or creating toxic fumes, I am filling in with steel stik, instead of welding.

Seems to work well. The large patch at the rear can be welded in.

I will need to make up a patch panel for this area as well as the supporting metal underneath.

Hi Ben. Any plans yet on cooling, radiator, and grill shell, etc. I like your hair pins and front attachment fab work. Thanks again for all the details.

Here is a photo of the radiator installed...prior to the trip to the sandblaster.

It sits up above the thermostat, at a severe angle, to fit under the stock hood. It also requires a filler neck in the upper hose at the high spot of the cooling system. I plan on using a hole saw and dimple die to open up the front of the hood for cooling or possibly some sort of outrageous scoop/nozzle.
The kit car that supplied this frame also supplied the engine and radiator. The previous owner claimed that this radiator kept the motor at a cool 180 degrees, but I find that hard to believe. I have a larger radiator that fits the larger space available in the bug. The kit body positioned the radiator lower and more up right, but I don't see any issues with the new location. If more cooling is required, there is more room available under the stock deck lid

I can't take credit for the hairpins or front end. These were all part of the remains of the kit car chassis.
